DC Fontana has passed away

:(

I read that she basically created the character of Number 1 for "The Cage". I've always wondered what she thought of Discovery's take on the character...?

She was the author of some of my favorite episodes, especially "Journey to Babel" and "Yesteryear." But her influence and significance to Star Trek was far broader, as others have noted.

Very sad. Another of the "greats" from our lore passes on. What a special person and trailblazer.

Did she have any TOS scripts unproduced? "Joanna" was horribly re-written. They made some unwanted changes to "Incident" -- but did she write any episodes that were unfilmed entirely?

One of the foundational Trek writers. Her contribution to Trek as we know it cannot be overstated.
Indeed. At the very least, she was the equal of Bob Justman and Gene Coon, and second only to the Great Bird Himself (if not indeed his equal).

And of course, she gave us Sarek and Amanda, and much of Vulcan culture.

Live Long And Prosper D.C. You created much of the mythos of Spock and Vulcan. May your Katra find its way to the arms of the God of Peace.

Her legacy to STAR TREK assures that she will ALWAYS live long and prosper. Current and all future fans owe her a debt of gratitude for her incalculable contributions.

R.I.P. You will be missed, and will never be forgotten.

I'd rather put her on the same level as Gene Coon, above Justman and Roddenberry.

A shining light of Star Trek both as a creator as well as her presence in fandom over the years. She was just on Trek Files a few weeks ago. Weird and sad to think that she's gone.

I'm not a big fan of 1st season TNG but Farpoint is an exception. And Journey to Babel is a contender for my favorite TOS episode. And Yesteryear is simply transcendent.

Dorothy we'll miss you.

Probably. Unproduced scripts are very common on all TV shows.

One of the very best.

Honestly, she was essentially a co-creator of TNG as well, given her work on the script for the "Encounter at Farpoint" pilot.

Huge loss...thank you Dorothy for everything you gave to us. You will be missed, but not forgotten.

Such sad news! My sincere condolences to her family and friends.

Thank you, Ms. Fontana, for everything. Star Trek would not be the same today without you.

I would like to thank her for everything that she did "for me" . This Grand Dame gave excellent escapes to me when the realty was too hard to burden. She gave me and many other women the feeling that sci-fi can provide us a great homeland.
