MLB Pseudo-Season 2020: Roger, Dodgers

I'm just glad that Ellsbury ended up being a horrible free agent signing for the Yankees. It was a stupid contract at the time.

I personally think this contract was the Yankees worst ever. Yes, worse than Brown.

Interesting read here about what the Yankees may or may not do. Old v new spending habits.

I don't think we'll land Cole. Not because we wouldn't pay him, we'd have to dramatically over pay him, but I think he wants to go to the Angels (his childhood team). I do think we need a front line starter. I'd be happy with Wheeler. I look for a big season from Montgomery. We also have the Domingo German situation...

I've loved both Miggy (possibly a generational type hitter) and Gio, but Rendon would plug into that line-up very nicely. He's the kind of hitter the Yankees need as well. He puts the damn ball in play.

Didi? ... do we sign him for a couple years, let Torres play second and play DJ at first? Keep Tyler Wade as our utility infielder? He can play anywhere and has blazing speed. Trade Ford or Voit, or both... Didi's a lefty and we certainly need a few of them in our line-up.

Outfield? ... do we keep Gardner for another year? ... he had one of his best years last year... When will Hicks be ready? Judge seems to be the only Steady Eddie. Stanton should east up most of the innings in left I would think. We still have some outfielders in the minors we can call upon if needed. I thought Frazier was going to be better than he is, especially in the field (a liability)... I think I would stay with Tauchman.

The Yankees have a bunch of salary coming off the books next year... will they bite the bullet and pay the extra tax this year, then get back under the "cap" next year?

Should be an interesting off season for the bombers.

Yankees showing what shitstains they truly are. Attempting to withhold Jacoby Ellsbury's 2020 salary and 2021 buyout, after releasing him.

So, if the shoe was on the other foot, would the player then be the shit-stain? He's been hurt for soooooooo long, I might suspect some Indian medicine pipe remedies  Not sure that would constitute a "health care provider who is not affiliated with the Club must be authorized by the Club in advance of the treatment in accordance with Regulation 2"

If the Yankees didn't object before now, then they don't have a case.

Maybe they didn't know?

How would they not know? If he was supposed to be getting treatment from the team and wasn't there they would know. If they sent him to someone, and he didn't go, they would know because there would be no bill for the services rendered.

They sound incompetent if they didn't know what was going on with an asset they were paying $20 million dollars a year.

That's their argument... so one has to assume that he was getting "treatment" from someone the Yankees didn't approve of.

My point is: if they didn't make a case of it until now, then they don't have a case. They could've brought this up at any time during the season.

Why did they keep paying him during the 2019 season if he wasn't doing what he was supposed to be doing?

I would bet that this is a deliberate, calculated attempt by the team to recoup that money and as much of a Yankee hater as I am, there are any number of other teams who would make the same attempt.

I don't know? I'm trying to think of a time where a team tried to not pay a player money they are owed, and am drawing a blank.

Want to hear some bullshit? Despite making more money than God every year, the Cubs have made it known that Bryant and Contreras are available via trade because they want to save money. The Brewers are shopping Hader, in the middle of their contention window, for the same reason. Boston is going to tender JBJ and is shopping Mookie Betts.

Grind the owners into dust and salt the earth with them. And the union needs to go on strike when the CBA expires because this salary cap horseshit from the luxury tax is fuckery, plain and simple.

Reds are giving Mike Moustakas 4 years and $64 million to play second base?

I understand needing a bat, but this just feels desperate.

Read the statement Epstein released about the non-tender. It's the most tone-deaf, self-congratulatory bullshit. I'd link it but I'm posting on my phone from a hospital bed.

Agreed.

“Since we decided to tender Addison a contract last November, he has lived up to his promise to put in the important self-improvement work necessary off the field and has shown growth as a person, as a partner, as a parent and as a citizen,” said Epstein.

Hope you're on the mend soon!

So who will be tanking next season? Even if big market teams are worried about the uxary tax maybe the middle markets could take advantage. I would like my Rangers to get Bryant, Bumgarner and another SP. Jason
