So, I made this.

The Starship Constellation sails through space towards System L-374... and her destiny.

That is just gorgeous! Can't wait to watch it on the big screen tv! Excellent job Prof!

Really awesome, subtly updated, loved that you can see hull plating, the engine dome effects are spot on, also the impulse engines look great. :mallory:
Yeah the subtle updates are what I really love about this ship (aside from, of course, it being a Constitution class.) All the tweaks still look very 60s era, and don't change the underlying vibe to the design. I really like it.:bolian:

Thanks guys  I have to admit I am particularly fond of the warp nacelle dome lighting effect. The counter rotation of the blades in relation to the timing of the lights creates a pleasing strobe effect that I may need to steal for the Enterprise.

Been heads-down for a while. Before I fall off page 1 :) here's a frame grab from a video I'm trying to finish before the U.S. Christmas holiday.

Thanks :) There's actually several things going on here:
  1. Up until the "debut" video of the Constellation posted a while back, I've been rendering my videos using Octane's "Direct Lighting" kernel, which is a biased renderer (i.e., not physically-accurate, but fast). The Constellation debut video and the one I'm working on now (as well as almost all of the stills I've posted since September) were created using Octane's "Path Tracing" renderer, which is slower but is unbiased and (imo) gives a much more pleasing photorealistic result. Below is an early test video of the Constellation that I shot with the faster (and more inaccurate) "Direct" mode. When you watch this back-to-back with the "official" debut video, you can see some of the differences (to me, mostly, the Constellation doesn't look as "flat" in the path-traced official video).
  2. The Constellation is an older ship, so I changed the materials and the tint from the Enterprise to give her a more gun-metal look, but I'm also using a strong blue-white light as the scene's main light source, which emphasizes the new materials.
  3. I'm experimenting with bloom and glare, so the image is now not so razor-sharp clear. One of my friends calls it the Star Trek Discovery filter. :D (She's also flying by the camera, so there's some motion blur, too.)
Here's that early test footage I was talking about, done with Octane's "Direct Lighting" render kernel:

And here's a direct link to that 4K frame grab I posted yesterday, since the TrekBBS website code zooms in WAY too close when you click for the full-size image. Really wish they'd fix that. :angryrazz:
