Will CBS All Access Remain Viable in the Streaming Wars?

Whose to say every business must operate the same? Certainly not in my experience.

And if CBS loses, then they lose. I'm sure many fans would be happy about that.

But these are competitors looking to take CBS' share of the market. These companies do not operate in a vacuum.

I am not taking joy in this, I just do not think CBS All Access is worth the money they are charging. I think it would be better if Star Trek was on a better service and I am glad in Canada it is. I would not get CBS All Access if I lived in the US.

Again, above I just posted an article saying CBS All Access grew, so they are fine, for now, but it is silly to think increased competition will not change the market.

And it is equally silly to think
CBS will keep AA static.

Fair enough, I wouldn't get in it's current state, it's not the worth the money. To make it worth more, put more of the CBS/Viacom content on there, people say it's making new content, but so everyone else, what is their hook? I think most CBS Network content sucks and I rather see stuff from various Viacom businesses and Showtime.

If Viacom doesn't believe in CBS All Acccess, why would I? Sounds like it's not worth it, if they can't give it their all.

"The Internet" is not usually a good predictor of success or failure.

In my opinion, as long as CBS has Trek + spinoffs, NCIS +, CSI +, and Y&R on All Access, it'll be just fine.

Then it will fail. Too bad.

Its worth it to me and apparently to others...but, it's a failure.

Maybe it be more viable if it more stuff on it?

If I was a fan in the US I would be insulted CBS would insist on me paying for service that I think mostly had shows I think are complete garbage, I think CBS library is mostly trash I am not interested in I would not to pay for a bunch of garbage shows just to watch Star Trek. On another service it would have more content I would like.

Well, good thing you're not a US fan.

Also, I'm a US fan and I'm not insulted. But, I like the CBS archive. Those shows are what I like.

YMMV and obviously does.

Do you get CBSAA wherever you are that's not in the US? If not, why do you care? :techman:

You say CBS is betting on a conservative strategy and we can try their wisdom here, but if WB and Disney are making the opposite bet, who says they are wrong?

Whose to say either is really wrong? Whose to say that they can't survive? There are 127.6 million US households. How many does a particular streamer need to survive? CBS was only projecting four million subscribers for All-Access by 2020/2021. Seems like they have a model that doesn't need 30-40 million subscribers to survive.

Netflix has 60 million subscribers and you say they aren't going to survive in its current form. Maybe a smaller subscriber base model is how some survive when Netflix can't.

Because I think Star Trek has a better chance at thriving on a better streaming service with a bigger variety of content. I think Star Trek is tied to a bad streaming service and I do not think that is good and again I would not pay for it. If I think CBS All Access is a rip off, you don't think others would not feel the same way? I do not think that is good for the franchise long term.

Fair enough, but if we are going on anecdotal experiences, I do not think CBS' library of content on it's own is worth their asking price. I think that library is mostly terrible.

If you're not in the US, you're not getting your Trek on CBSAA anyway. So, cheers. :techman:

You didn't really talk to any points that I brought up. The biggest being that not everyone needs to do Netflix subscriber numbers to survive.

I have the commercial free plan, and I don't think it is a ripoff. You don't think others would feel the same way? You rag on anecdotal evidence, but then yours comes down to what you think.

I am not raging against anecdotal evidence, I am saying they do not think they prove a trend. I thinking the CBS library sucks proves nothing, except for the fact I would not pay for it.

But again why do people here think more content from Viacom or Showtime would not make this service more popular? What is the logic behind that?

It's ok to not like it, but dooming it a failure because of personal disdain is just as anecdotal as my opinions.

Do any of us know what numbers CBS All Access needs to thrive?

I just think they would have a better chance of thriving if they had more Viacom and Showtime content on it, that is all. Why do you think that is wrong headed?

Just because we have different streamers doesn't mean they all have the same business model. CBS and Showtime as two different services may generate more overall revenue separately than combined as one entity. Showtime costs $11 a month streaming. Are people willing to pay $16 for a combined CBS/Showtime app? I can't believe CBS didn't crunch the numbers to see which way was going to generate more revenue.

We don't know the numbers, but they do.

Seriously, if CBSAA has no effect on your viewing experience, why the fuss?
