He's not someone who immediately jumps to mind for Alfred, but I think he could be good.

I’d prefer to see him as a bad guy but I guess that’s a bit predictable

The story has now been updated to say that Colin Farrell - who was at one stage supposed to be Bats for Wolfgang Peterson’s abortive Batman v Superman film - is in talks to play Penguin. Now that’s definitely not predictable! https://variety.com/2019/film/news/andy-serkis-alfred-pennyworth-the-batman-1203393996/

I thought Pierce Brosnan was Alfred? Or was that just a rumour that went nowhere?

As much as I like Andy Serkis, I was already attached to the idea of Brosnan, and I'm kind of meh about Serkis as Alfred now.

He's supposedly rumored for a role in Shang-Chi

Shang-Chi is aided by MI6 agents Clive Reston and Leiko Wu. Sam Claflin is in final talks to play Reston, while Jessica Henwick has recently been approached to play Wu. Pierce Brosnan is in talks for the director of the MI6, Jack Tarr.

I love the idea of Ferrell as the Penguin. He's basically a character actor with a leading man's face. Serkis would do all there Serkisy stuff he would do as the Penguin. I have no idea what Ferrell would do and for that, I'm intrigued.

And I think Serkis would make a great Alfred. I would believe he's got a secret agent past.

So I wonder if Farrell's casting mean's we'll be getting another skinny Penguin, or if they'll put him in a fat suit/mo-cap suit?

I would assume the former. If they wanted a stout Penguin, they would've just cast a stout actor. It's not like real ones can't be found.

Some actors do love going all out for a performance. The last couple of guys to play Churchill come to mind

I have to admit, most of the people they've been picking are not people I would have expected to see in these roles, but they're all great actors so I'm happy with them.
I wonder if Farrell will get to use his real accent? They gave us a English Penguin in the Arkham games, so I don't see why we couldn't get an Irish one here.

The funny thing is that Dublin criminals are often given nicknames like that by each other and the press, the most famous being The General aka Martin Cahill, who was played by Brendan Gleeson in John Boorman’s film of that name. In fact, another one is even called The Penguin https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www....rge-the-penquin-mitchell-pension-13515562.amp
