MLB 2019: Mad Max Beyond Astrodome

Offseason thread coming this afternoon, taking suggestions for titles. Currently leaning towards CHAM-PI-ONS DO DO, DO DO DO DO

I hate baseball.

The Astro's will be back next year, with or without Cole. Without I would imagine.

Cole is almost certainly gone. The Astros have made it abundantly clear they have no intention of meeting his contract demands, and beyond that, he was very visibly pissed off about not being allowed to pitch last night.

Cole made it pretty clear last night he is gone next year.

The Astros are going to look very different last year. Cole, Wade Miley, Harris, Joe Smith, Hector Rondon, Collin McHugh, Robinson Chirinos and Martin Maldonado are all free agents. Of those, Cole is almost definitely gone. Miley likely blew his chance at re-signing in September, but I wouldn’t completely count out a cheap second chance depending on how actively the team pursues other starters. Re-signing Harris and Smith seems like a no-brainer, but Jim Crane is a cheapskate, so who knows? I imagine they'll let Rondon and McHugh walk.

The catchers are where I’m stumped. Of the two, Maldonado has made his case to stay more than Chirinos, and he’s a measurably better defender. But Verlander loves having Chirinos catch him and I would expect him to push heavily for him to be re-signed.

Also, if I'm reading contracts right, the entire outfield is up for free agency after 2020, and Correa the year after. Yikes.

It'll be interesting to follow Houston's journey through the off-season "hot stove" doings. The Braves and White Sox are my teams - they're going to be fun to watch, too. Especially the White Sox.

Yup. I thought if he did come in and shut door on the Nats and the Astros won the World Series, he might stick around. But the reverse happened and, like you said, he looked pissed.

As for thread title suggestions: The Robo-umps are coming! The Robo-umps are coming!

I don't blame him. He was very explicitly told by the team that he needed to be available for relief. Hinch having him warm up and then coming out after the game and saying, "Cole was our guy if we had a lead and needed to close out the game" ... after Hinch had a lead and needed to close out the game, but went with another guy, clearly set Cole off. He's going to be enjoying sunny California air next year.

I didn't expect the Nats winning last night to be so emotional for me. I didn't cry when the Cubs won in 2016, but I was crying when Hudson threw the glove and the dogpile began. And when I saw the photo of Aaron Barrett holding the World Series trophy this morning, I cried even more.

I'm seriously thinking about going to the World Series parade on Saturday.
