Spoilers Batwoman - Season 1

I mean, Spiderman in all movies removes his mask continuously.

One of the things I liked about The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (which handled Peter/Spidey and Gwen fantastically but botched everything else) was that they let Spidey keep his mask on in some key dramatic scenes, like when Harry demanded the blood sample he couldn't give.

I love the scene in Raimi's SM2 when Peter loses his mask on the train. Of course, there it was a plot point. Interestingly, we saw how masks staying on practically all the time in Raimi's SM1 was a bad idea, because it kept Willem Dafoe covered up too much.

I loved episode 3 and I really have enjoyed the slow buildup to Bat Woman. While not perfect, Kate was so engaging in the episode. I know Ruby Rose isn’t the strongest actor but I feel she’s been great so far. I feel her Kate is nuanced and growing.

My theory is the reason Batman went missing is because of the Crisis story and this might kill this shows Batman so he isn't some neverending mystery that never gets solved. Jason

Sometimes, it throws me off: seeing landmarks I know to be associated with either Vancouver or Chicago in Batwoman's version of Gotham.

Batwoman
Season 1 - Episode 4 - "Who Are You?"

Kane/BW: It would be interesting to see Kate have to make the decision that its near impossible to balance a social life with being a superhero, since the episode constantly made a point of her private life being interrupted. In fact, Luke mentions that Bruce found it easier being Batman than his other half. so Kate having to embrace a "lone war" life would be keeping a tradition of sorts.

Luke Fox: His messaging program has a Bat-symbol? Imagine if someone hacked or ripped off his phone...

Eventually, a realistic sub-plot will have Luke see the need to learn some form of self defense, and break the worn-out Arrowverse trope of the weak nerd. I do enjoy his needling/teasing Kate about her life, short arms (for Bruce calibrated devices), etc. Theirs is the best relationship on the show so far.

Catherine Kane: Ah. So, she was responsible for "Alice" being written off as dead. With her being so busy with Hamilton Dynamics, what angle was she working that required Jacob giving up on his daughter?

Since she failed to kill Alice with off-the-shelf guard types, it would have been interesting if she determined that the only way to kill a nutjob is with another nutjob--like someone from Arkham. Perhaps a B-list villain...

Now that she's admitted her deception, she deserved every bit of Jacob's cold cut-off.

Alice: Some viewers are already tired of this character, but I enjoy how she strikes the balance between a psychotic loon and semi-"normal" at any moment.

Jacob: Although he asked the right questions about Hamilton Dynamics tech used in the Alice breakout, and knows how he was deceived by his own wife, there has to be more to Catherine's story than she's telling him.

Magpie: Until more information comes in, Magpie is just a thief and should not have convenient abilities to match Kane, whether she's using military training, or "Bat moves".

Sophie Moore: Once again, the showrunners push the notion that she will leave her marriage...

NOTES: The explosion blocking with her cape was goofy. Not executed well at all.

GRADE: B.

Caroline Dries said earlier this year that "Elseworlds P2" takes place between "Down Down Down" and tonight's episode, but that can't actually be the case because tonight's episode is where Kate decides to go into the real estate business, something she mentions in that episode... meaning that it actually has to take place after tonight's episode.

Probably my favorite episode so far, possibly because the origin story is over and Kate is well and truly Batwoman at last, even though she's still got a bit of a learning curve before she fully gets the hang of this masked vigilante thing. Loved the "Batman never took selfies" bit and the perverse way they used Aunt Martha's iconic pearls.

I re-watched Elseworlds after last week's episode for that exact reason, and I noticed the same thing.

I'm not sure if Dries getting the chronological placement of "Elseworlds P2" wrong means anything, but at least we now know for sure when that episode has to take place based on actual onscreen information rather than just her "Word of God" statement.

True, and again, I do enjoy the way he needles/teases her. She doe snot know what to do with that--other the occasional sarcastic reply. I would love for the two become bonded as friends as much as they will be on the crimefighting side.

^ Which means she got the chronology wrong when she commented on the timing of the crossover earlier this year. Maybe things shifted in the writing, or maybe she just made a mistake. Either way, I'm glad she clarified/confirmed what tonight's episode showed.
