MLB 2019: Mad Max Beyond Astrodome

Nats kicking ass, I didn't expect that. Oh well, at least we knocked off the Yankees twice in three years in the ALCS.

That should be good for the Phils, except maybe Harper. Not sure how he'll handle a manager like Giradi. At the least, it shows the Phils really want to win.

What choice does Girardi have? If Harper rebels, it's not like the Phillies will release him..

HA! HA!

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/10/astros-fire-assistant-gm-brandon-taubman.html

The Astros have fired assistant general manager Brandon Taubman, as per a statement released by the team. The move comes two days after news broke of an incident following Houston’s ALCS win over the Yankees on Saturday, as Taubman repeatedly yelled “Thank God we got Osuna! I’m so f—— glad we got Osuna!” at a group of three female reporters.

Hopefully he never works in MLB again.

Does it save the Astros any face after they tried to deny anything happened at all?

They might have saved the team itself some ramifications from MLB.

Either way, they look bad. Taubman is probably the one most adversely affected by it. If the Astros had just said he was a drunk dumbass, they probably could've gotten away with suspending him for three months, with a large donation to women's defense groups.

Though Taubman deserved to get fired for having that little in the way of self-control or common sense.

Ken Rosenthal raised a pretty salient point a day or two ago in The Athletic. MLB players who are suspended for PED usage are prohibited from participating in the postseason. Players who are suspended for domestic violence have no such prohibition.

Damn, I hadn't thought about that before. That's fucking gross.

Astros GM Jeff Luhnow was asked whether he had personally reached out to @stephapstein to apologize.
Luhnow said he’s been busy and hasn’t had the time.

Stephanie was sitting in the room.

Luhnow said it was “devastating” to learn what really happened. “I wouldn’t wish it on anyone in this room, just like I wouldn’t wish it on anyone in this room to sit up here and answer these questions either.

Houston GM Jeff Luhnow contradicts the Astros' own statement issued from today, now saying there was no investigation by the organization.

Luhnow signed off on the first statement (accusing Apstein of fabricating the story), he refuses to say who actually authored that statement, the "investigation" was just him asking Taubman and his bro what happened, he said he's been too busy to reach out to Apstein in person what with all the traveling (Apstein was sitting in the press conference in front of him in her capacity as a reporter), says there's no cultural issue with the Astros front office at all, was utterly blindsided by Taubman's behavior because it was so completely unlike him (uh huh), and finally he suggested that having a major league team try to destroy your career as a journalist by telling lies is a tough place to be, but no tougher than having to sit in front of the press having to explain why your major league team tried to destroy a journalist's career by telling lies.

Someone really, really needs to learn the First Rule of Holes.

While it would never happen, the Astros need to clean house.
