    This will make me unpopular.....

The last two times I have re-watched Star Wars I have been tempted to just skip EP IV, I have just re-watched EP IV (Can't bring myself to skip it). Seriously this movie is so lame, I remember loving it as a child but as an adult?? Honestly the first and final 'act' are fine, it's the middle bit on the death star, especially the whole detention level scene. I think it's in dire need of a remake.

    Anyone else feel this way?

    No.

    Really no.

I 'know' Empire is a better film, but 'Star Wars' blew my mind and changed my life in 1977. I've seen it 13 times at the cinema, many of those during it's original run.

Star Wars (it wasn't Episode IV or A New Hope then) doesn't get on to my list of favourite movies, which goes something like - The Terminator, Aliens, Empire Strikes Back, Silent Running... It is more than a favourite movie. It's a touchstone in my life. It doesn't belong on a list of things as small as favourite movies.

If you can't picture the seismic effect it had, go away and watch nothing but old episodes of Doctor Who and Blakes Seven (both shows I love). Immerse yourself in them for ten years or so and forget about any better effects or higher budgets altogether. Reset your parameters.

Then go see Star Wars in a state of the art theatre. Be devastated by the visuals, amazed at the effects, captivated by the farmboy to mystic warrior heroes journey, the beautiful princess, roguish smuggler and...all the rest of it.

Objectively there's better movies out there. There's a good case for Empire being better than Star Wars. None of that matters - they're not as...important.

    Or life changing.

I'm giving your post the benefit of the doubt and assuming it's not just trolling, but in that case you're simply as wrong as it's possible to be.

Not me, but maybe someone somewhere.

@Relayer1 - nothing to with special effects, it's had so many remasters that it's rendered that a moot point. It's specifically the parts on the Death Star really.

As you can probably gather from my post it's hard for me to be objective at this point.

Star Wars is very much my first love. I've long since moved on (I'm dreading Episode IX) but can't find anything I don't like about 'that' movie.

Including the Death Star sequence. and including the garbage compactor...

Only if they use Ewan McGregor as Obi-wan and Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo.

If you are going to go for it, go all out and use the newer actors who have played the younger version of the role as the grow up. In another ten years, Ewan will be around the age Obi-wan actually was in the Death Star (a few years younger than Alec Guinness) , and Alden....well he'll be only slightly older than Harrison Ford was, and around Ford's age for The Empire Strike's Back.

Not even close. I find it to be the most rewatchable one of them all. My four year old daughter feel the same too - it's the one she wants to watch more than any of the others and is already quoting the dialogue. Even the so-called 'slow' bits early on in the movie hold her attention. A New Hope has an almost fairytale quality to it, which I think is what she has latched on to, and the feel good nature of the ending gets her applause every time - not that these points are any barometer of quality - these are just observations I've made as I've rewatched this film 16 times in the last 6 months with her.

By any measure it is a stone cold classic movie and one of the best ever made, period. It's still fantastically entertaining.

Sure, ESB expanded on the story really well and has a string of standout sequences and music, but it relies too heavily on the other two instalments and that puts it just behind the original in my view.

For me it is still the best Star Wars movie, and a very, very, special film indeed.

It is my favorite. I like farm boy Luke even better than Jedi Luke because it makes him feel more relatable. Jason

The morning after we brought our son back from the hospital I left my wife asleep, took the baby downstairs and I sat cross legged in front of our old CRT TV and put Star Wars on the VHS with him on my lap. I wanted to be sure it was his first film.

Last time he came back from University he brought the despecialised edition with him for us to watch. I was a proud Dad.

Mind you, he's booked tickets for an opening night midnight showing of Ep. 9 with his mates. Mom and Dad will have to make their own arrangements. There's gratitude for you...

What do you find so objectionable about the parts on the Death Star? Bar some clunky dialogue - 'one thing's for sure we're all gonna be a lot thinner' etc I think it still holds up well - the set design still looks superb and iconic, and I think it has the best shootouts of the OT too (despite having the worst lightsaber battle).

I'm taking my daughter to see TROS on the opening weekend, this will be her first visit to a cinema, her mother keeps mentioning Frozen 2 as being her first visit to the big screen, to which my reply is - 'no fucking way'

Only people in al-qaeda and ISIS.

Just kidding. You're entitled to your opinion, even if the majority disagree. It makes for a discussion at the least, but if that's how you feel, that's how you feel. Some people think Enterprise is the best Star Trek. Some people like Jar Jar or Rose.

My favorite film of all time. Classic in every way in my mind. It needs as much of a remake as say The Princess Bride Or Back to the Future. (Sadly one of those is purportedly getting a remake.)

But of course you’re entitled to your opinion.
