Destination Star Trek Birmingham 2019

Long-time browser, first time poster!

Anybody going at the end of the month? I wasn’t planning to attend this one but we were given a free hotel room as the one we had last year was a bit of a disaster.

Only 3 I want to have photos with this year. Ruck (I’m a Ferris fan), Mount (more due to Hell on Wheels) and Takei.

Apparently the Picard museum exhibit is going to be there, with some of the placards updated since it appeared at Star Trek Vegas.

Una McCormack and myself will be there signing books and appearing on a couple of panels talking about Star Trek fiction...

I don’t feel the guest list is as good as previous but I love the atmosphere and have already got my tickets. Look forward to meeting JG Hertzler in Klingon make up

I agree, definitely the weakest line up with lots of one episode only characters. As you I love the atmosphere there.

Just got tickets yesterday, as it happens. First time ever going to a convention, which is crazy given I’m 33 and have been into Trek for as long as I literally have any memories. Going alone on this occasion, as couldn’t get a babysitter, but very excited.

Only worry is that I’ve got tickets for Picard talk, and photos with Connor Trinneer and Anthony Montgomery, which some think may now clash once the time table is updated... that’ll break my heart!

The staff are very good at dealing with clashes - if you have clashes don't suffer in silence! Tell the information staff.

I'm there for two days this year, I must admit to slight disappointment in the guest list compared with last year but there are still plenty that interest me. I have pics with Denise Crosby, Robin Curtis in costume, Michelle Forbes and George Takei (met him before but I always take the opportunity with TOS cast as, well, time is ticking on) and a ticket for the Picard talk. Waiting, hand on wallet, for any Patrick Stewart photos to be announced. Otherwise I might get a last minute LeVar Burton instead.

It's unusual for talks and photoshoots to completely overlap, so they'll normally bump you to the front of the queue if you have a clash, or let you in on the other 'half' if the actor is doing two shoots, even if your batch number doesn't match. That sort of thing. If it's completely unresolvable they may offer a refund for one element, but I've personally not seen that happen.

This will be my 5th convention ( 4 Destinations and 1 cruise). I agree that the guest line up is rather weak but there are some new people coming which will be fun to get their photo for my collection. Surprised that more of the Picard cast aren’t coming since they’re finished filming. Maybe they think people won’t care about them until the show airs. Could have been a good time to get their photo at a cheaper price.
Hoping to get the cloaked Defiant model, as well as the remaining Discovery I didn’t get last year. I’ll go to the Picard panel but I doubt they will reveal anything new here, even when they should since it’s an actual Star Trek convention where people would give a damn.

That would be awesome.

I've been to tons of conventions and met dozens of ST Actors and guest stars, but never seen him.
He came to the 2012 and 2014 one. He didn’t do photos in the latter unless you paid £300+ for the TNG cast one.

Annoyingly Alan Ruck has cancelled, he was 1 of the 3 that I had.

If anyone is about on Sunday am and want's my two commander badges (with probably most of the included items left on them), send me a message and I will meet up with you. I only bought them for the quick autograph access and now only need 2!

Rapp and his gay lover are coming instead now. I get the feeling the whole Discovery cast might be coming again last minute. sucks about Ruck. Must have something important going on, unlike Frakes. All he’s doing is directing a Discovery episode. Nothing important. :)
There’s a rumor that the reason Shatner isn’t coming is because he’s on the Masked Singer. Surely he would be easy to identify if so.

I'll be at Destination Star Trek in Birmingham this weekend, reprising the authorial double act with my esteemed colleague Una McCormack.

On Saturday 26th, Una and I will be joined by CBS's John Van Citters on the Excelsior Stage from 12:45pm to 1.30pm for the panel Star Trek: A Novel Idea.

In addition, we'll be signing books at the Forbidden Planet stand from 2:00pm to 2:30pm.

On Sunday 27th, John will once again be with us on the Excelsior Stage from 10:45am to 11.30am for the panel Trekking Through 40 Years of Star Trek Books.

Right after that, we'll be signing books again at the Forbidden Planet stand from 11:30am to 12:00pm.

Una's also going to appear with the Trek Book Club on Sunday at 2:45pm to 3.30pm on the Excelsior Stage to discuss her DS9 novel Enigma Tales.

We hope to see you there!
