The real problem is that movies are just so fucking expensive to go to anymore. For me to make an investment in going to the movies, then the movie has to be what I consider a "big screen experience". Home screens these days are more than enough for the kinds of movies that Scorsese makes. Plus, the home experience allows you to pause the movie to go to the bathroom and usually comes with a variety of bonus features and commentaries.

For instance, I do enjoy your normal, earthbound comedy movies, but I can't even remember the last time I wasted my money on seeing one in the theater. They just aren't big screen experiences for me.

Movie theaters are cheaper than they've been in decades. Just need to find the deals.

Not my experience. Even when you do have a matinee, or deal or a gift certificate or some such, it always seems that the movie I want to see is excluded for some reason. And matinees aren't cheap anymore. I remember when matinees were two or three bucks. Local theater here -- 8 bucks. Barely a discount at all. And that doesn't even take into account the ridiculous cost of snacks.

And even if that weren't the case, the home experience lets you watch the movie at your leisure, drink or smoke at your leisure, you don't have to worry about crying babies and as mentioned, tends to come with a variety of bonus features to enhance the experience.

No AMCs in your area? $5 on Tuesday. I think Regal is something like $7... And almost all chains have discount tickets online.

I usually do Friday or Sunday morning shows and can get them for $7-8. I don't mind that price. It's the $15 for a small bottle of water and medium popcorn that gets in my craw.

Well, that's the only thing they make money on. The distribution deals with theater chains in the United States are pretty crazy.

I'm slowly accepting it. At least with winter coming it's easier to sneak in water bottles! Discount!

AMC theaters are $5 on Tuesdays. There are discounts all over the internet for other chains...
Everytime I've gone to one of the two AMCs near me it's been a bad experience. The theater I go to is part of a smaller chain, Harkins, who has theaters in AZ, California, Colorado, Oklahoma, and Texas. Even though the company is small, the theater we go to is really nice.

In regards to Scorcese part II... I find it ironic that a guy most known for making hyper violent, Italian stroke films is so jealous of the MCU. Poor baby.....

What is he jealous of? The only thing he might be jealous of is that MCU style movies are making it almost impossible for legends like him to make the movies they want.

Right. He has made enough money in his life. At this point he just wants to be able to get his movie made.
Maybe he should try his hand at TV, that seems to be the place to go for the kinds of things he likes to do these days.
