Best one yet! Thanks for posting about the post credits ad, as I wouldn't have found it otherwise. This crew really did remind me of the scientists I work with. I think I am Edward.
The MARVEL movies have me spoiled.
I''m always checking to see if there's anything after the credits of stuff I watch online.
I knew it was there before even watching the whole thing.

And Yup, that was Bing singing the song.
:)
(interesting that They are now more willing to pay for copyright stuff)

Anyone know what is the purpose of that zipper?
It's a pocket. I checked and these are indeed a thing.

And now I want boots with a pocket.

Mods, T'Bonz, and Everyone Else: I've reached out to Commander Richard who always used to put up these threads in the past. I'm waiting to hear back from him.

I loved the story. One nitpick. I doubt the foodie expression is going to last this far into the future. Jason

I wonder if the widespread use of replicator technology by the 23rd century is already making some people in the Federation leery about eating real meat? The short seemed to suggest that. I'm a bit surprised that Star Trek never went there to be honest, because you'd expect the widespread availability of perfectly simulated meat would mean a lot more humans would be down with vegetarianism.

In fact, Riker says in an episode that humans don't eat meat and do not "enslave their animals." It was widely considered Roddenberry being on his soapbox.

Even if they weren't, I think the fact that Edward misses how cute Tribbles are is a factor. He shows them as adorable kittens first and then says they're delicious.

I’m a bit surprised that TrekCore’s reviewer wasn’t fond. I often find myself in agreement with their staff but this time it’s a hard swerve.

If I had a replicator I'd be chowing down on

tyrannosaur chops, trilobyte scampi and food cubes every evening. I think we'll reach a point soon where manufactured meat is cheaper and perhaps safer than real meat and people's food habits will change accordingly, which will be a big break for depleted fisheries.

I believe they told him to go, "Full Archer as a scientist" for this role.

I kept waiting for Linda Belcher to come around the corner imploring "Baaaaaab, there's customers waiting for their tribble burgers." There's already an Archer-Bob Belcher tie in, why not throw in Edward :D

Am I the only one who thinks Tribbles as food is a great idea? I mean, seriously, if they can eat grass or whatever they're a great cow.

I wonder how they taste.

he is a lieutenant, along with most of the rest of the science staff.

there's a third uniform variation in this episode that i think is interesting, a very casual athletic shirt with the regular pants and boots:

very TOS.

Could those be ensign or "crewperson" unis? Looks like the same pants though.

That's the strangest bit. They don't seem to eat or drink anything sometimes. Sure they can eat all the grain in a starship, or deplete a world, but they don't always seem to be eating.

The only headcanon which seems to make sense is tribbles all have a little replicator inside them. Though presumably they'd still need a source of energy.

The genius of Edward Larkin, once more. I like to think they phase in and out of another universe and eat it when they don't have anything local to munch on.

I don't know how long it will stay up, but for anyone wanting to see the commercial, I found it on youtube:

I actually wonder if perhaps some of the "zaniness" of this short can be boiled down to Captain Lucero being sort of an unreliable narrator. I mean, she was screwed over in her first command regardless, but maybe the last few scenes are effectively her embellishing slightly on how badly the tribbles overran the ship in order to defend herself against court martial?

Could be.
I notice a few reviewers wanted to speculate that Edward was Sec.31 because of his work clothes, and that makes no sense to me. He wasn't wearing Section 31 armor, he was wearing a black smock. I think if they could have given him a dirty diner apron they would have.
