Trek-Ships made with Blender (wip) (usually non-canon)

Hello and thank you for taking a look at my designs.

So in this thread I want to share some of my designs. Not just for the sake of it, but more so for some feedback how I can improve them. Every feedback is highly appreciated. Please don't hesitate or hold back just to be nice.

As a hobbyist I can not promise to come up with new stuff on a regular basis. But I will do my best.

(I hope my english intelligible, tips to improve here are also welcome)

So here we go.

The first ship I want to share is my U.S.S Humboldt. This is just the basic hull. Lots of details are still to be addet. The color pattern is very much a placeholder and the materials are not fleshed out jet. So very basic the whole thing.

Influences in this design are mainly the Ambassador Class by Andy Probert, and the Excelsior. The main thought behind this is that it is designed to further explore uncolonized Planets in Federation space. The saucer section serves as some kind of base on the planets surface. The rest of it stays in orbit to map.

Here the front view. The Deflector itself takes inspiration from the Embassador of the show. The way it is incorporated in the hull will hopefully resemble the Probert version some day. On the saucer you can see placeholders where the landing gear we be. The neck will be equipped wit the obligatory torpedo/probe-launcher.

Here we see the extendet neck. It will house the Impuls engines(upper big hole) and the secondary bridge. Also I think I want to add an impulse crystal between the secondary bridge and the impulse engines. The structure on the right side next to the bridge module is a landing pad and hangar for shuttles.

Here we see the shuttle bay, or where it is going to be some day. The cutout underneath it will be a docking port for a special vehicle, much like one of these little submarines that are carried around by todays exploring ships. Dont look at the oddly round shapes on the warp nacelles and where they are connected to the struts...its not supposed to stay like this.

Soooo...what do you think? Are the proportions right? is the shuttlebay too big? Should I go for blue buzzards to play up the aquatic theme? Did I forget something important?

And apologies to the people who looked into the thread and found nothing. I had to render the whole stuff new because I forgot that I used a HDRI as background I forgot where I found it and this took some time.

Very nice model! The saucer is very unique, both because of the extended neck and because of that asymmetrical landing pad. I love that secondary bridge added in there.

Keep it up! :techman:

I'd maybe move the saucer aft just a little bit, to counter the feeling of "flimsiness" that befalls it right now; it looks as if the whole thing would topple over, and quite a lack substance of between the saucer and the neck. I really like the secondary hull, though. It gives it more of a workhorse feeling!

Thanks for the reply. I can see what you mean. What if I just shrink the saucer down a little bit. Like 5-10%? And talking about the saucer. Is it just me or is it to thick? I am happy with the top of it. But the bottom/underside just dosen't feel right.

There are some beautiful shapes and curves in your design, particularly in the secondary hull. I really like that second image of the deflector and hull with the almost diamond-shaped cross section. The combined impulse deck and secondary bridge superstructure is a nice feature (and I don't think the saucer is too thick :) ), and your reason for it works well.
I'm looking forward to seeing the design progress and become a little more detailed.

I actually love the entire idea of having the saucer forward as much as it is. It gives it an otherwordly idea. As if it shouldn't stick together but it does.
I read somewhere that that's why Jefferies has the nacelles of the original E on such flimsy pylons. You keep thinking everything would break, but it doesn't. Making you feel in awe somehow about the technology involved.

I've heard that too. And looking at the front view of the original Enterprise the neck feels very slim too. Like, if you put enough pressure on the right/left tip of the saucer, it would snap.

Thank you very much.

Googeling "tuethid" only brought up more questions.
- Tuethida is an order of decapodiformes, i.e. squid. Perhaps @Atolm can see an element of squid-like design in your ship? I must admit, the secondary hull from above & below (and, to a lesser extent, the nacelles), does exhibit a squid-like shape :)

an element of squid-like design

Ah ok. I wanted it to have an somewhat aquatic vibe. But, with the name in mind, it was coincidentally spot on i guess. From now on I will of course pretend to have had this in mind from the start. Thanks for drawing my attention to this. :)
