OMG! I loved that series. Watched it every Saturday night on PBS in '84 or '85 (can't remember exactly). Pity they never adapted the third book and finished it.

My older brother LOVED The tripods and would watch the reruns in 86/87, I on the other hand was terrified by it. Granted my brother was 17 and I was 4. Even today the tripods or anything vaguely tripod like such as the machines from war of worlds gives me chills.

IIRC, there are some circumstances where they are a more practical option over green screens. I'm not sure exactly the criteria for determining which to use, but there is still a place for blue screens in the modern world.

Cast wearing lots of green for one, Blue is better for dark scenes too from what I read

Well, if you have something green on screen. You can't then use a green screen
