Contest: ENTER August 2019 Art Challenge — “Under The Sea ...”

For August's art challenge, we're going to take a trip Under The Sea!

I was racking my brains earlier for a theme and, while walking past a jewellers shop window, I noticed three beautiful pendant charms in the shapes of an octopus, a dolphin, and a seahorse - all made of polished, marbled stone and various semi-precious jewels. Eureka! I thought, Trek Jewellery! And then I thought why limit the theme to jewellery when it might be far more interesting to see the inspiration for these jewelled sea creatures and other submarine subjects.
So, I'd like to see your take on what lies beneath Trek's oceans (or other bodies of water), be it animal, vegetable, mineral, or ruddy great futuristic submarine (or other such Treknology)!

Here are the rules for the competition:

• the artwork you submit should be created during the month of the challenge
  
• only one final image can be submitted (although it may contain multiple views)
• your final entry should be posted in this thread (although dedicated WIP threads are appreciated)

As always, you have until the end of the month - i.e. midnight (or thereabouts) Saturday 31st August - to come up with a submerged Trek something. Happy splashing!

Since I've been working on a risian theme craft I will have to switch my focus to another risian theme.. But I go on Vacation tomorrow, I'll start some mock ups for when I return next Monday!

Here's my entry. Although it's intended to be underwater, I guess it could also be interpreted as being in a dense blue nebula or planet's atmosphere.

As with most of my posts, this one has a backstory: The fifth planet of the Deneb Kaitos system is almost entirely ocean, with only a few small islands dotting its surface. Below the waves of the planet's seas, however, are hundreds of Starbases, some of which were built by humans who came to live on Deneb V alongside their Denebian allies. The image below was taken in 2368, and depicts an underwater Starfleet base which was designed to service ships in the traditional Denebian fashion: by having them literally planetfall, then breach the surface of the ocean and dock underwater. The two starships seen in this image are the USS Adelphi and the USS Allegheny. It is entirely possible that Captain Victor Clark (my avatar in Star Trek fandom), who would one day go on to command the Allegheny, first viewed his future command in this manner, from the bridge of the Adelphi, which he had just assumed command of at the time this picture was taken.

I seem to have an early memory--maybe someone creative at a local station in the early 1970's--or maybe I dreamed it--of the Enterprise (aft 3/4 view) facing off against the Seaview.

That might be a good photoshop.

So, yeah, I've got something...



[EDIT] I found some errors, things that didn't go exactly as planned, that sort of things. So re-uploaded it. So what's happening here? Aquapod DSV-01 makes its way to the recently discovered wreckage of an old Paris class vessel, where a base is being set up to research its demise. Seeing as the last time Starfleet had contact with the vessel was over 180 years ago, they're very interested in knowing why it's in a relatively good condition. Was the craft here all that time, or did it wound up on the bottom of this Class M's planet ocean later?

Not exactly as I imagined it, but this v.quick attempt at a Starfleet away team mission to the Arcadian homeworld will have to do.
(Yes, that is a Z-Ray/Sinker Zoid repurposed as a Starfleet submersible - I don't know if it's clear enough, but there's a type-11 shuttlecraft in place of the Imperial Zoid cockpit)

There're still a few hours left before the deadline in case anyone else is still working on a piece for the challenge!

The arrival of family last week disrupted my plans to create a more dramatic piece, basically a re-imagining of "The Ambergris Element" with Uhura and M'Ress (instead of Kirk and Spock) getting transformed into merfolk, specifically the scene in sickbay when they consider their options.

So I opted for a quick "gag" entry which I composed this afternoon.

Yeah, I see M'Ress as a bit of a wise-acre, the "Hawkeye Pierce" of the ship, always ready the the quick quip.

Staged and rendered in Poser. M'Ress is Aiko 3 with morphs by Beth Capsces, textures by Daio, "amne" by Ali and micro-dress by Oshikai. The tail is from the "Lost Realms" set for A3 Kirk is the even older Michael 2, Poser 4 Male mesh with a Shatner morph and clothing meshes by XCalPro.

- Tell me about it. Much as I love my family, they do pick their moments for dropping in. Almost every art challenge has been thwarted in some way by visiting family members. Of course, my inherent procrastination abilities play a big part as well...
