Star Trek brought to you by Viceroy Cigarettes!

I stumbled across this on YouTube. A recording of NBC's 1967 rerun broadcast of "Space Seed". I'm guessing this was a home movie where the original film was later digitized and put online. In this YouTube video, 99% of the episode is cut, but you see the commercials in-between. It's a pretty rare look back.

According to the YouTube description, this is from a film chain copy (which was probably transferred to VHS and duped several generations).

Full-minute commercials, and only one per break! And that jingle I can still remember: "Now a Viceroy smoke for the taste that's right / Right any time of the day." I'm overdosing on nostalgia.

Oooh, natural flavor fresheners! Lots of guys like having a Viceroy in their mouth! I thought today's adverts were naff, but those take the cake and the rest of the bakery too.

It really is amazing how many fewer adverts there were during an episode. But 30 seconds commercials are somehow less annoying thanks to less cloying.

The Shell advert was kinda cool, though. Wouldn't it be better to run the same car with the same amount of petrol twice in a row? Two units of the identical make/model could still have minute but sufficient variations to create an anomaly in the study, depending on how far back it was when it ran out of fuel. Still, "close enough" works. :D

Yeah I used these commercials to try to recreate the premiere of The Man Trap as closely as possible. I know it's all wrong, but on the 50th anniversary, it was just fine. It really helped bring me back to a time before I was born.

Now, if CBS/Paramount had done right by the series and released the show the same way The Twilight Zone was done, I wouldn't have had to work so hard... :D

I did some of that too, focusing on NBC commercials. I may redo it since I can’t seem to find that disc anymore

The last time this vid came up I seem to remember another commenter deducing that the recording is likely of the summer repeat of Space Seed. I can't remember how that was figured out though.

The RCA commercial at 5:30 talks about September 15 being in the near future, so it's not the original February broadcast.

Because I'm obsessive, I actually cut those commercials into the copy I have so when I watch it in three years, I'll have the real experience.

And yes, it's a summer rerun.

So your Star Trek show begins in 2021 is that right, Neopeius? If so then it will end in 2024 and you will have to wait until 2028 for TAS and 2034 for TMP and then 2042 for TNG, 2049 for DS9 and 2051 for VOY! Hope you've got all them years left to you my friend? :techman:

I didn't know I Dream of Jeannie took Star Trek's new third season summer time slot. My sister and I were avid fans of both shows as kids, so this is an interesting footnote to that.
