Stephen King's The Stand Series Might Head To CBS All Access

Like IT, the Stand novel is one of my favorites and I liked the original TV miniseries and hope for the best for this new adaption. All the cool kids seem to be turning Stephen King's novels into films or shows these days.

I think a TV miniseries is the best way to go, even if that means a lower budget and not having the epic scope that only movies can bring.

The first miniseries of The Stand had a great cast (except for Molly), so the new miniseries is going to have a lot to live up to. The music and songs in the original were wonderful too.

I would like to see a multiple season series--even if we know the ending. This novel was all about the journey. I have always thought that King wrote the novel thinking, "How can I write a really really long story with a literal Deus Ex Machina climax and still have people love it?"

As for MM as Flag, wouldn't it be cool to have him play all the versions of Flag throughout King's novels. It could be a really cool series of films...although, I would prefer HBO to do a real version of The Dark Tower series with McConaughey and Elba as they were cast well.

 

As time goes on my resistance to getting all access weakens. When it was just discovery of was one thing. But with that and twilight zone and the other trek series and now this, I may cave

Is that version streaming for free legally anywhere? I watched part of it when someone was showing it on TV a few years ago, but I don't think I saw the whole thing.

You buried the lede: The most significant thing about that news is that he's writing a new final ending for the story, exclusively for this series.

 

I wonder if Stephen is going to "George Lucas" the ending with bonus but otherwise pointless scenes, or that he will actually make significant changes to the climax.

 

Contrary to Lucas King is a brilliant writer so no worries there.

James Marsden as Stu Redman
Amber Heard as Nadine Cross
Odessa Young as Frannie Goldsmith
Henry Zaga as Nick Andros
The article also says that the new material from will be "a new coda that wasn't found in the book". So it sounds like it'll be new scenes that show what happens after the end of the book.

 

Hmm the casting of James Marsden might have to be handled carefully with Stu and Frannie winding up together. Young is 21 (so right on for the character's age) and Marsden is 45 (been a while but didn't think Stu was that old - in his 30s iirc)

 

I want to be optimistic about this, but after the way The Dark Tower was mistreated I'm more hopeful than optimistic.

As far as the original miniseries coming to Blu Ray, that's pretty cool, but, I mean, will it be significantly better than the DVD in terms of...well, anything? I doubt they're going to do a new commentary track, for instance, and I suspect it was never shot for HD.

 

Gary Sinse, who played Stu in the TV miniseries was 13 years older than Molly Ringwald who played Frannie,

 

which would have closer to the characters in the book and not as bad as a 24 year age difference.

 

Marsden is 45 but he looks a decade younger.
