I'm now an Amy Pond convert

You know what I've had a change of heart. I was one of the anti Amy Pond people but have somewhat come around to liking her after watching series 5 and 6 again.

OMG I like Amy Pond now. But was lurking around on the internet as you do and there are a lot of anti amy groups online. It's sad to see that.

Still can't stand Rose and Martha though.

I liked Amy at first, but she wore thin on me.

Loved Rose and thought she was one of the best DW companions ever thought up, but her re-appearances were less than stellar.

Martha I wanted to like, but the actress has two expressions: happy and confused.

All three were gorgeous though.

Hello.

Thank you for your comment. I kind of agree with Martha, but I never liked Rose I just couldn't warm up to her. But of the rebooted Dr Who my favourite companion above all else was Donna Noble. I just loved her.

I like Missy too.

May I ask what wore thin about Amy with you?

It turned into the Amy and Rory Show for awhile... that's all.

Donna has been my favorite companion since the show came back to life, by a wide margin. Amy was ok. She just had the usual problems with uneven writing, whereas Donna's season was possibly the pinnacle of NuHu, at least so far.

I like what Amy and Rory brought to the TARDIS. I like Rose with Nine but started to wear on my nerves with Ten. I would have liked Martha if she weren't always so moony-eyed over the Doctor the whole time. Donna was great. Clara was alright during the whole "impossible girl" thing, but was pretty useless post-Day of the Doctor. Bill was great. I like the current set of companions well enough.

Absolutely loved Amy. Rose was...O.K. at best. I liked Martha.

Loathed Donna. Oh how I loathed Donna...

What were your reasons for that, if you don't mind?
Most of it is certainly down to the actress, not the character - I was aware of Tate as a comedian and found her hideously unfunny and gratingly annoying. Sadly the grating annoyance continued into her performance in Who and the part that has been written for her. In fact it was way worse as I just turned off her other stuff, I was stuck with her in Who.

I could probably have liked a Donna played by someone else more, but the character was annoying anyway. Someone else could have made the character more sympathetic though. As it was, I just wanted the monsters to get her.

I've seen Tate elsewhere and just don't like her, even when being interviewed. At least the Donna stuff brought us the wonderful Cribbins though - every cloud has a silver lining.

Oh that's fair enough. I think Donna is an acquired taste. Much in the same way I didn't like Martha or Rose because they were always goo goo eyes for the Doctor

To be honest, none of the new companions really appealed until Amy (and Rory) came along. Rose (and Mickey) underwhelmed, but did bring us the fantastic Jackie, and Martha, who I did like, was still a bit bland.

I've started collecting the Big Finish audios that fit with Nu Who, and you can guess how thrilled I was with these :

Oh wow I have never seen those. I can't seem to find them here unless you look online, are they available as CDs?

I haven’t really disliked any of the companions.
Bill went through an annoying phase mid season, but her start and end were good.
Rose and Clara both sort of outstayed their welcome, but had stuff even after their sell-by that was good (and poor Moff, he must have written Clara’s last story seven billion times.)
Donna...I wasn’t happy about her start, but she settled in fast enough.
Martha was...poorly treated by RTD but was still OK.
The new gang...well, I am still waiting tbh. Graham and...and...I have forgotten his name lol. I drifted off in that series. Ryan! Have an interesting dynamic, and Yas is a decent actress waiting for someone to write something for her. She’s like the new Nyssa.

But the Ponds are in a class of their own. Their story is actually a full on story from Day one. Most companions get a ‘how I ended up in the Tardis’ maybe a bit of an arc in the middle and an ‘how I left’. Each of Moffs get a bit more than that, which is probably why I would place Clara in second and Bill in third.

But the ponds were family.

Of course, they all owe it to Ace, the original ‘companion with an arc’.

Indeed they are on C.D. - I have rather nice special editions of these. There's an ever increasing amount of Nu Who stuff, but you'll only find it for sale in specialist stores. Online is your best option.

Amazon and Ebay are also your friends...

Yeah I didn't think to look at Amazon.
The only ones I found were as digital downloads.

I'll check out Amazon.

There's CD versions of most of the releases available on their website although this may change in the future, and some are out of print now.

Pretty much everything comes up on Ebay if you wait, a lot of it fairly inexpensively.
