Is The Disney Company a hoarder that destroys our favorite franchises?

I don't know. How many "Ma and Pa Kettle" and "Francis the Talking Mule" movies did Hollywood churn out back in the day? Not to mention The Thin Man, The Pink Panther, Charlie Chan, Mister Moto, Torchy Blaine, Tarzan, The Falcon, Mexican Spitfire, and any number of "assembly-line" movie series.
Franchise is not a new concept.

At some point Comic book movies, endless sequels and reboots won't make the money they have been making.
And the market will adapt or die. Used to be that comic book movies were a terrible idea and now that has circled around.

I'll not disagree that the current box office output is less than thrilling but I'll not pretend that it's going to remain forever this way.

I always found it interesting how, for over 50 years now, the future of the Bond franchise has constantly been in doubt, it's an uphill struggle to get each movie made, and yet they keep on coming.

Since being bought by Disney, Pixar released Wall-e, Brave, Inside Out, Coco and the Good Dinosaur.

'Rehashes for a money grab from old fans and the selling of toys'?

Also not true. Did you even realize when you typed this that literally the only mcu movies released before Disney bought Marvel were Iron Man and the Incredible Hulk?

Luke was a massively better and more interesting character in TLJ than he ever had been before.

Baseless speculation.

Shocker: A franchise built for decades on children's cartoons leans heavily into nostalgia. News at 11.

Hypocrisy from who exactly? Did Disney make a public commitment to 'new' stories? That second paragraph literally makes no sense, btw.

Disney 'classics' are the original family friendly, feel good franchise. Their history is totally irrelevant to other franchises Disney owns.

I really wanted to take this seriously then I saw you say Luke was good in TLJ and ROFL noped out of this thread

Seems like whether or not you like Luke's arc in TLJ depends mostly on how you interpreted the end of ROTJ.

Opinion on that movie is split to say the least, but there appear to be quite a number of us who thought TLJ did a great job with Luke Skywalker's character. Reasons have been given earlier in the thread.

And we're off to the races!

Do we really need to do this again? I feel it’s been done to death.
The sides are easily summed up so there's no need to reiterate.

I blame the EU for this, it created this idea of Luke as this all powerful Grandmaster with Legions of Jedi who would still be the central character of it all.

Did James Bond okay for about 40 years.
I wouldn't call Bond films part of an endless cinematic universe, like Marvel or Star Wars. They are standalone action movies that have tried to evolve with the times. The only continuety is a general concept of Bond, his character and his role working with the British government. They aren't churning them out either. Sometimes you have wait 4 years to see the next one.
