I've been wondering the same things. I initially thought Vol. 3 would be a prequel to Love and Thunder, but Feige has made it clear that Saturday's announcements are Phase 4 (althight changes may occur), so maybe not.

Whatever happens, I hope do we get to see some time with Thor and the Guardians together.

Quill probably shot Thor out of an airlock the first chance he had

Plenty of actors and actresses disappear into relative obscurity for one reason or another, particularly women of her age. This movie will keep her front and centre for a little longer.

Sure. Of course. I never argued it wasn’t good for her career. I was addressing your point which seemed to indicate she was only doing this because her other movies weren’t box office successes. I don’t think she is a person motivated to do a project based on how much income it will bring her.

Since Guardians 3 won't come out until at least 2022, I'm willing to bet that Thor: Love and Thunder will be chronologically set after that movie.

Interestingly I found out that in the comics Jane had cancer and I wonder if that intrigued Natalie to play

That was one of the most intriguing parts of Jane's journey. While near indestructible as Thor, the transformation would burn through her chemotherapy treatments causing her cancer to accelerate. So the longer she remained in her Thor form, the more rapidly the cancer advanced in her human form.

For sure enough it must have also been the story proposal that must have convinced her. As others have said she doesn't strike me as the type of actor who's only in it for the paycheck, she doesn't need it to live a very comfortable life to the end of her days.

So story it had to be but i assume a paycheck with enough zeros behind the number also didn't hurt and doing a blockbuster movie might also be fun.

However she sure seemed to stand out a bit in an odd way during the Comic Con panel when Waititi handed her Mjolnir which she took and held somewhat awkwardly.. there are other MCU actors who completely embraced that craziness that is the MCU and would have gone nuts with the hammer onstage (she would have become legend then and there if she stepped back and started to whirl Mjolnir around like Thor or Cap :D ).

Speaking of Mjolnir.. how will she get ahold of it? Original Mjolnir was destroyed by Hela, Cap took the other version with him at the end of Endgame to the past so what did he do?

Did he bury it in Norway somewhere and left a note somehow where to retrieve it? It's obviously got the best antitheft protection imaginable.. he could have left it in the middle of Times Square and return to it 30 years later without it having moved a millimeter.

She's doing it because like most celebrities approaching middle age and irrelevance, anything to stay in the spotlight will do.

Portman is at that age where usually Hollywood don't have much for you these days, short of maybe playing Adam Saddlers new love interest in grown ups 5, a single mother cleaning up toddler sick is the usual role. It's a weird no man's land.

Sure they act like they want to go down the artsy route and return to their roots as an actress, but then the invitations to A-List shindigs, and the free designer clothes start to dry up a bit. And the cameras on the red carpet start to look past them at the new, hot young things.

It's a God send for her really, this as it will get her some attention for a bit longer and that's all these celebs really crave.

It’s nice of you to share the knowledge you’ve acquired in your close relationship with Natalie Portman, so the rest of us don’t fall into the trap of thinking a successful, well-educated person might have a less shallow motive for taking on a particular role.

These Hollywood types are all very predictable and easy to read, and padme amidalan is hardly a high art avant guard actress, as much as she wishes she were

She's a Harvard graduate, so I'd say she's probably not what most people would probably think as the usual Hollywood type.

I know you all want to see the best, it's very endearing, but I'm just an honest person and I tell it exactly as I see it.

Portman thought she was too good for the MCU and it's fans, she figured she was a mega star in her prime and any movie she did would be huge

So she left, all the movies she was in failed to make any sort of decent money

Offers started to dry up, 40th birthday begun to approach

Taika gets brought back and told that we need to make thor 4 as socially progressive as possible

Female thor! Of course, Portman will be cheap and easy to ring back as she's desperate for work at the moment.

What they failed to realize though is that Jane Foster wasn't memorable or likable so banking on her is a bit of an iffy part in their plan.

Overall I think the movie will do well though as it'll have a lot of support from those in the social advocacy fanbase

I know on Trek BBS there are certain groups of people who are absolutely beyond any form of criticism (Portman belongs to at least two of said groups) but at times one must be real.

I'm sorry the truth upsets people I really am, but living in fantasy land doesn't help anyone.

Black Swan was TEN YEARS AGO

what have you done for me LATELY

ALSO that was well during the time the Oscar's were known to be snubbing minorities and people of colour so I can't take an Academy win circa a decade ago seriously.

    That was the white era
