With that kind of reasoning, any kind of technological advancement would be kept under wraps.

Even the original TAS still played it straight...I can't say I'm looking forward to the wacky, zany Lower Decks.
Wackier and zanier than an inflatable Enterprise decoy, or a giant Spock clone called Spock Two?
Star Trek is a vehicle for many different stories is the point. A comedy series is just a valid and doesn't render it less Star Trek than isolated scenes that are played for comedic effect. Those were isolated scenes. They weren't indicative of the entire series.
Here's an unpopular Trek opinion:
I'm rather apprehensive about the new Lower Decks series. I don't think I like the idea of turning Star Trek into a joke.

I thought slingshot time travel was discovered (or refined to be useful) by the Enterprise in Tomorrow Is Yesterday?
In "Tomorrow is Yesterday," it was a freak accident that caused no end of trouble.
Then they tried to use it for routine historical research in "Assignment: Earth" and nearly triggered a nuclear war!
Clearly, it's risky business even if you think you know what you're doing. Heck, McCoy accidentally wiped out the entire Federation just by saving Edith Keeler that one time.
... then how do you explain his reappearance in A Piece Of The Action as Tepo, huh?Apparently, disintegrating the homeless guy did nothing though...

Unpopular Opinion: I'm not feeling Star Trek: Picard.
I saw tons of mock outrage about the emblem on the collar. Mock outrage about the dog. Etc. But we're getting this news in the Dog Days of Summer, so there we are.
This is where the 24th/25th Century not being my thing comes in handy. I'm on the sidelines. So I get to watch the reactions, and think to myself, "Damn! I'm so glad I don't have a dog in how this new series turns out!"
I just get to grab popcorn. But I know when it comes to Disco and Section 31, someone else will be grabbing the popcorn instead. So I'll take this vacation and enjoy it.
I'll take your spot. Not feeling that trailer.Actions speak louder than words. I'll have to reverse my position. I've done a lot of defending of Picard today, even though it's more muted than when I defend Discovery. It's still there.
They put out a good trailer.

I've gotten used to Disco's Spock... Now I think of him as the norm for Spock.
In a Spock to Bond comparison: Leonard Nimoy is like Sean Connery. Everyone else is everyone else, and wherever they land depends on who we're talking about.
Sean Connery Is overrated, Daniel Craig is better.
