Why do you assume that Guardians will come before Thor? We have no idea how far into production Marvel and Waititi is on the project and we know that Guardians 3 isn't even going to begin production until after James Gunn is done with The Suicide Squad.

Well, the fact that they never announced it before is at least a likely indicator that it's not that far into production.

But we do know G3 was originally supposed to come out next year - it's the reason there's a hole in the schedule with only 2 MCU movies in 2020. Thor 4 could never have beaten that date without the Gunn scandal pushing Guardians back. If it could have it would be coming out next year with Eternals and Black Widow.

So your theory relies on the idea that marvel chose to rewrite Endgame to setup Thor 4 as part of the schedule shuffle which resulted from Gunn's firing which happened six months after primary photography of Endgame wrapped. Theoretically possible that it was done in pickups? Maybe. But I don't buy it.

Also, in the directors roundtable that was part of the special features of the Infinity War Blu-ray, James Gunn states that these movies aren't all as planned out in advance as the fans believe they are.

the lack of an announcement isn't anything I'm too worried about. Marvel hasn't even officially announced Black Widow yet.

That is a weird one, I agree, but imo just a bizarre quirk of BW being the first movie of phase iv. They want to control the presentation of the Future of the MCU as much as possible, so are letting as little out as they can prior to whatever major announcements they intend to make. Even so, I'd have made a different call on that one. You just look ridiculous failing to announce a movie that already has leaked set photos.

I don't doubt that, but I still don't believe that they would insert something into Endgame which would require Thor 4 to happen before Guardians 3 unless that was always the plan. And all the evidence indicates that that originally very clearly wasn't the plan, so, imo, it still isn't.

Just realized that I will be offline (at a sporting event) Saturday night during the big panel.

Bummer. Obviously there will be recap articles and spoiler video and other stuff, but there's something fun about following along live and seeing a mysterious announcement first pop up.

Another rough day for Men in Black fans hoping for an MiB International 2... all six of them. :p

Regardless whichever order Thor 4 and Guardians Vol. 3 come out in, I just hope we actually see Thor spend time with the Guardians for awhile before moving on to other things.

Either way, I'm sure we'll have greater clarity on this issue this weekend.

There is a Shang-Chi casting notice that states Marvel is only looking at actors of Chinese heritage for the role, no other Asian nationalities. This has caused quite a sensation with the Chinese, who are super stoked to see a Marvel superhero who shares their heritage. I have to imagine that even if this movie only does moderate, say Ant-Man level, amounts of money in the US, it's going to make a boatload of cash in China.

OK, so what do we think the odds are that we're gonna get Beta Ray Bill and/or Throg? Because at this point, between Gunn and Waititi I can't see either of them passing up the chance to do something that silly.

I wouldn't be surprised if we got Beta Ray Bill as a supporting character in Thor 4, especially since we saw a giant sculpture of his species face on the Grandmaster's tower on Sakaar. I don't know anything about Throg so I can't comment there.

That was actually Beta Ray Bill's face, his people look a lot more like humans and he did as well before he was chosen as the sole guardian of his people, they turned him into a cybernetic version of their homeworld's nasty predators.

And don't forget the Bi-Beast!

I liked Thor Ragnarok, but it was a little more on the comedic side than I wanted it to be, and I'm hoping that Thor 4 will dial things back a little.

Ah, stand corrected! Thanks for the info. All I really know about him is from one of the long crossover series post-Infinity Gauntlet.

I'd rather see Marvel Studios shell out cash and incentives to get Natalie Portman to return and set her up as a "new God" , as it were, than introduce Beta Ray Bill, who isn't really anything other than "alien Horse Thor".

Throg dates back to Walter Simonson's run on Thor. After The disappearance of Odin, Thor and Loki were supposed to appear at a ceremony to determine who would be the next ruler of Asgard. In order to keep Thor from attending, Loki turned Thor into a frog. So Thor spent three issues helping the frogs of Central Park defeat the alligators before returning to Mjolnir, and with heroic and God like effort, managed to lift the hammer and become Throg, frog of thunder before returning to Asgard to confront Loki.
