Contest: ENTER July Art Challenge: Aldebaran Whiskey to Zylo Eggs: Food in the Star Trek Universe!

SCE2Aux

This month's Art Challenge we're exploring the food (glorious food!) of the Star Trek Universe. There's a whole galaxy of possibilities on this one, from figuring out what might be on the drinks menu at Quark's, to recreating Will Riker's terrible omlettes!

Here's a useful link if you're looking for ideas:
https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Foods_and_beverages

Here are the rules for the competition:
  • the artwork you submit should be created during the month of the challenge
  • only one final image can be submitted (although it may contain multiple views)
  • your final entry should be posted in this thread (although dedicated WIP threads are appreciated)
This is such a fun theme, so I'm looking forward to creating a creating a galactic Star Trek dish, and seeing where everyone's imaginations take them. :)

I'm gonna try a hand-drawn entry this time
I'm thinking along similar lines as well: I've been leaning pretty heavily on 3d software for my last two entries, so I think I'll likewise change tack and do a photoshop only piece this month.

I'm wondering, does it have to be a known food, or dish in the Trek universe? Or can we make something up (Not races) but say something like "Tellerite Kelfling cheese" Kelfling being the animal the cheese is made from?

I'd go with known races. I think the food should fit what we know about the species. Like truffles in a trough for Tellarites

I agree about using known races, but I think it would be ok to be a bit more free with the types of food. For example in my original post at the top of the thread, I suggested a drinks menu from Quark's Bar might be fun. The drinks could be made up (Bajoran Iced Tea, for example,) but as long as it graphically looks like something Quark would design, I think that would be fine.

As long as there is a Star Trek connection of some kind, I'm happy to see where people's creativity takes them. :)

Alright, I was just thinking that there are not a huge list of Trek alien foods, unless it comes from fan fic or memory beta, you know. So I never wanted to change the races, I just assumed, and thank you for clarifying, that I can use my imagination. :) I was actually trying to think something up, but I wasn't going to enter if I had to stick to the limited choices of known foods, and in passing we hear about a rare food once in a random convo across Trek and never hear about it again!

Final Entry:
Club 47 Gauntlet Shots Challenge
We have first, the Poleron Pulse, second, The Sumarian Sun Burst, third, the Tholian Web, and Finally, Starfleet security scrambler! If you can complete the challenge and hit anywhere on the dart board, your drinks are on the house for the night!

Enjoy your Night at Club 47!

I actually had this in mind and I wasn't sure how to pull it off, but I used my free copy of Twinmotion to make it a reality! The thinking was, this drink challenge would almost incapacitate even a Klingon, so if an Officer or Cadet could complete it, and hit the Dart Board, anywhere on the dart board, they would get free drinks, so it wouldn't come out of their Energy Credit bank. That being said this challenge has been around since the days of Captain Kirk (Different iterations of the challenge of course) and only two people have ever completed the challenge, Captain James T Kirk, and Ensign Tom Paris

I'm not much of a drinker these days, so I'll just stick to a Tholian Web, thanks :)
Cool idea and outcome.

We're half way through the month, usually there are more entries, I'm waiting to see what people come up with!! :)

Just got back from Yellowstone and Wyoming. I'll try to start drawings this coming week.

Here's my entry (unless I find time to do anything else between now and Wednesday - which is highly unlikely):

(For those who may not be aware, plastic whales are a delicacy in the 23rd century - have a look at the fourth paragraph down...)
