MLB 2019: Mad Max Beyond Astrodome

Why shouldn't it?

Because most of the players in the game have absolutely no skin in the game as to the World Series, and therefore should not have any input into home-field advantage?

Like, say Chris Davis or Trey Mancini of the Orioles, currently something like 31 games out of first place, knocks a game-winning dinger in the All-Star Game, which gives the American League the win. Why the fuck should that give, I don't know, the Astros or the Twins home-field advantage if the NL pennant winner has 15 more regular-season wins?

The All-Star Game is a completely pointless exhibition, it's a game played for fun, and literally the only reason Bud Selig made the change to have the ASG determine home-field advantage in the WS is because he was embarrassed that during the nationwide showcase at his new largely taxpayer-funded mallpark, the game ended in a tie because both sides ran out of pitchers. Read "The Game," by Jon Pessah, which is exhaustively researched and sourced, if you think I'm pulling this out of my ass.

When did that happen?

It was part of the 2017 CBA negotiations and went into effect in the 2018 season.

Edit: If you're asking when the ASG was moved to determine home-field advantage in the World Series, that was following 2002's ASG at Miller Park ending in a tie, after which Selig used his "best interests of baseball" authority to rule that the game not only could never end in a tie, but also the winner determined home-field advantage in the World Series.

Edit 2: I'll never forget both MLB and FOX running their "This time it counts" ad campaign about the 2003 All-Star Game. Jackwagons. All because Selig was pissed about being booed out of his brand-new shiny toy.

Oh wow.

How is Home field advantage determined now?

Whichever pennant winner has the best regular-season record gets home-field advantage in the World Series. Prior to the 2002-03 horseshit that Selig pulled, HFA simply alternated between leagues each year.

Per the Elias Sports Bureau, the Dodgers last night became the first team in the live-ball era to draw five consecutive walks to end a game, with no outs occurring at any point during the streak of walks.

Were they playing my nephew's Little League team or something? That is some clownball-level shit.

I had to go look it up. I figured "Marlins", but no, it was the D-Backs.

Yeah, I watched the highlights this morning. Five consecutive walks? Whomever the Diamondbacks' pitching coach is--I think it's still Mike Butcher?--should have been left at the stadium before the team bus went back to the hotel, then summarily fired, via FedEx, this morning. Like I said, that's clownball shit.

John Sterling is taking an 8 day break from broadcasting Yankees games. He has broadcast every Yankees game since 1988, well over 5000 games. Yankees fans will be confused by the additional oxygen in the NYC area.

Is that like, when Harry Caray passed, Cubs fans noticed the sudden overabundance of Budweiser™ in Wrigley Field?
