Can we have a sensible talk about Batwoman trailer?

So you think that amount of downvotes is inconsequential to the probable success of the show?

I'm not so sure, I think a good number can be put down to trolls I don't know if it all can though.

Sounds to me like yet another organized campaign to combat the evil "SJW" forces stealing science fiction from straight white men--or so these idiots believe. Word surely went all out to all the ComicsGate, GamerGate, MRA, incel assholes to try to sabotage the show preemptively.

In short, we're not talking about 400,000 average viewers who just happened to be turned off by the trailers and would have give the show a fair shake otherwise. We're talking reactionary trolls mobilizing as they too often do.

Yeah, I'm gonna have to go with everybody else here, I don't really see the number of downvotes having any real impact on the actual success of the show. Most of the people who downvote something like this are either were never going to watch the show in the first place, and are just rushing in to downvote it because they're sexist homophobic asshats, or they're going to hatewatch and end up contributing to it's success even though they hate it. Either way, they are going to end up having no noticeable impact on whether or not the show succeeds.

CW has really been pushing its brand as being inclusive of non-binary, non cis characters for a while now. Last season nearly all of its programs had major LGBT characters. Now one of those characters is the series lead/titular character. As much as many of us would like to applaud their efforts from an ethical standpoint, the truth is that they would not be backing Batwoman as it is being written if they didn't have solid market research behind it.

Even their overall network add talks about how inclusive they are:

Which I think is nice to see, since it seems like a lot of the other networks are afraid to really go all in with that kind of thing the way they have.

Nice. They've been doing that for a few years now, but this is the most overt declaration of their brand philosophy I've seen.

I wouldn't put much thought into what people who comment on YouTube think. Most of these massive downvotes come from bots and mass efforts made by obsessive weirdos who blame women for not having sex with them instead of themselves for being creeps.

The show looks good and a fine addition to the CW DC universe. I already want to see her team up with Supergirl and we get a women's World's FInest.

I would be more surprised if we didn't get a team up episode of those two with that exact title, than I would be if we did.

The trailer suggests that Batwoman is starting with an origin story, so either it's set on Earth-Arrow before the events of "Elseworlds" or it's set on a different Earth entirely where Batwoman is just now making her debut. Frankly, I'd prefer the latter, and I'd prefer the Earth to be Earth-Supergirl. :)

^ The series is set on Earth-1 but the Pilot (at least) is set before the crossover.

Having said that, we could still potentially see Kate and Kara link up on their own outside of "Crisis on Infinite Earths" thanks to Kara's portal-maker (I forgot what the actual device name is).

The title has already been used for a Supergirl episode. The season 1 crossover with the Flash.

I'm expecting that post-Crisis there will just be one universe or Supergirl's universe will just be merged with the Arrow universe.

This is why a sensible conversation can't happen. Look at the racism and sexism in the above comment. And look at instantaneous dismissal of an entire race and gender, while calling them idiots because they simply don't agree with this person's opinion.

This is why people don't like SJWs. They are so full of it. And this is why a show like Batwoman, with such an obnoxious trailer, is going to struggle.

Possible of course, but they said the same thing about The Last Jedi. It could just be that the trailer came off obnoxious, and people really don't like extreme politics in sci-fi/comic shows.

It happened in the comic version, universes did combine.

So?

Plus I think the main reason this happened on the shows in the first place was because Supergirl was on CBS.

Nope.

Supergirl is set on its own Earth because of Superman.

Greg Berlanti and Ali Adler had zero desire to have Supergirl exist independently of Superman even if we never actually got to see him, and he doesn't exist on Earth-1.

Bullshit. I am a straight white man and I was in no way insulted or dismissed by that comment. If you think you were, it's because you're deliberately looking to misinterpret what was said.

ETA: Or it's because you're actually part of the very specific group of people who were being talked about, who obviously don't come anywhere near being a majority of straight white men and do in fact very often act like total idiots.
