Can we have a sensible talk about Batwoman trailer?

As I have noticed that they are getting a lot of heat online.

I'm really looking forward to Batwoman as I'm a fane of Kate Kane but I don't know if Ruby Rose is really the right fit to play her (I almost think she would make a better new 52 era Selena kyle)

But I think they took the wrong tack with the trailer

Once again it's a "Here's an awesome LESBIAN superhero"

When it should be "Here's an awesome superhero and she's lesbian"

I think it could just be the trailer cut though and I have hopes for the show

But why do the people making these trailers think that it's a good idea to take these approaches? For all we know they just killed a show dead even if it's actually a great show (and it had the potential to be)

I don't see a problem. In fact, I'm probably going to start watching this series when it airs.

I think discrediting the fact that something rubbed people up the wrong way I'd disingenuous.

I find it weird as back in the days there wasn't such an uproar about things like this (willow from Buffy as an example)

Really not seeing how the lesbian angle is being played up in this trailer. There is one brief scene? I think the uproar is about the "woman" comments and song in the trailer to be honest. It is Captain Marvel all over again.

I'm not so sure, I think a good number can be put down to trolls I don't know if it all can though.

Yes, men who think a woman saying the word 'woman' on a tv show is just about the worst atrocity in the history of human civilization are entirely inconsequential to the success of this show.

As I said in the other thread, wait and see. Its true that the CW is not doing itself any favors with misleading trailers (if they are misleading) as controversy is rarely a good thing for what is first and foremost a fantasy series. It reminds me of the response to the trailer for Revenge of the Sith, where Mace telling Anakin he was on the Jedi council, but not a master was followed by a quick shot of Obi-Wan with an expression as if he were pleased with that decision. It mislead the audience (and social media of that day) into thinking Kenobi was screwing Anakin over, but that's nowhere to be found in the film at all. The same might be the case with the BW spots, so again, wait and see.

The Batwoman from the last DC/CW crossover was the hook and by far, the best part of that entire storyline. I'm hoping from what few BW scenes were in the crossover, its tone carries over to the regular series.

Yes. Yes I do. The same people who are downvoting this are likely the same people complaining about Captain Marvel and the women's scene in Endgame, and those did just fine. I'm absolutely sure this will too. It's just a VERY vocal VERY minority.

I think the downvotes make it more likely that this 'controversy' is bs. It's extremely unlikely that a bad trailer would actually earn that many downvotes purely on quality. Normal people who see a trailer they don't like stop caring and watch something else.

Or it could go down like Ghostbuster 2016, which didn't have the benefit of being a lead-in to the biggest-grossing movie of all time (Endgame).

I have no doubt that a show like this that puts the agenda first has an audience. I'm just not convinced it's a very big audience.

A) Ghostbusters didn't fail because it had an agenda. It failed because it didn't make people laugh.
B) This downvote thing has become an openly admitted movement which makes no secret of its misogynist motivations. They've targeted a bunch of different projects before and GB is pretty much the only one that actually failed.
C) A trailer is not enough to establish an agenda, and this trailer doesn't show any agenda in the first place.
