    I don't hate Data
But he's like, if you're playing an rpg, Data is THAT GUY. The member of your group that is WAY too overpowered. He's nice about it and doesn't flex and often handicaps himself so everyone feels like a team. Still, you get the feeling you all could die and he'd get through every campaign just fine, alone.

What if...! Maddox got his way. B4 is dismantled and copied and improved upon and Picard's rescue mission was getting a race of android slaves to safety in a twisted dark end of the 24th century?

    I seriously doubt it but...

In this case I'd rather they go with Maddox' book version, who in Articles of the Federation has heeded the lesson he learned at the end of The Measure of a Man and successfully argues against B-4 being dismantled for research like he used to want to do to Data.

If you ever played that TNG game for the SNES, it's kind of like how a lot of away missions ended up going; Data as a one-man away team.

I think some of us forget that Data is no longer Data. He is B-4 with Data’s “brain” in him. All we know is that B-4 was an earlier version of Data. For all we know, Dr. Soong could have built in “natural” aging to B-4’s system, which he later didn’t do for Data for whatever reason. Maybe he felt that an aging process for the android would make him more accepted in society. Just spit-balling here.

That was only hinted at in Nemesis. It wasn’t confirmed. All B4 did was sing a song; that was the extent of Data’s influence on him that we saw. For all we know B4 isn’t any different in 2402 than he was at the end of the movie.

Plus B4's brain wasn't as advanced as data's, so he wouldn't be exactly the same.

Everyone seems to be focusing on the physical, but I think rather than an actual physical presence, it would be somewhat fitting if his consciousness were uploaded to become the defacto ship's computer for the era.

This whole Data/B4 thing also raises the question of what a person is.

Data gave B4 all of his memories, sure, but are his memories the sum total of who Data was? B4 has the memories, but he didn't experience any of it. He would look at Data's memories of, say, Tasha, and know what Data felt about her, but those aren't his feelings. And if Data and Lore had different personalities, B4, even stunted as he is, will have some form of personality that might be shaped/influenced by his brother's memories but will not turn him into his brother.

Fair point. Which makes it very hard for Data to be in the show, since he was destroyed. So unless B-4 was upgraded and “rehabilitated” which somehow triggers a complete download of Data’s memories, education, military tactics, we won’t see Data as we know him.

In some ways like the Trill in that they have the memories of their previous hosts before they were joined, but haven't experienced everything that those hosts have before joining.

Looks like they suggest that his body survived the explosion?

Lore always said Data got the best parts, and he got the substandard parts. Looks like the best parts can survive just about anything.

Its been years since I've seen it but I think he was vaporized? Looks like they are doing a soft retcon where the body survives but he is "dead"?

Maybe. The one in the drawer is probably Data, but the one who's talking at the end might be B4 or a hologram or a dream.

I’m pretty sure Data is long gone and never rebuilt. The one we see is really part of a holodeck recreation that Picard runs because he misses him so much. That’s why he says that he wishes the game wouldn’t end, because when it does Data goes back to being dead and Picard isn’t able to pretend for a brief moment that he’s still there.
