I just found it to be surprising that Netflix didnt pick up Picard as well after Discovery, was it offered but refused or not even offered at all.

Begs the question of what international platform the S31 show will air on.

    We shall see I guess.

is there any real evidence netflix passed? it's entirely possible amazon simply offered more money and/or CBS isn't interested in concentrating its content on what is ostensibly a single competitor's platform. especially if they intend to make CBS AA global down the line.

There is no evidence they didnt.

I would have expected Netflix to be offered it first due to them being a major financial supporter to the creation of Discovery, especially as generally most dont subscribe to more than one platform, I myself use Netflix and others I know use Amazon.

The announcement of it being on Amazon was a big surprise to me.

They may indeed make CBS AA global down the line but that wont be happening for quite a while.

Reports were Netflix didn't receive what they signed up for with Discovery - signed up for org license/canon timeline. Got alt license Trek w Kurtzman

They were reportedly offered Picard, but they along w licensees didn't like sets, designs, costumes, direction, etc.as it was more alt license/timeline vs. Canon & said fool me once.......

I hadnt heard that I just found the switch to Amazon a bit odd.

Will be interesting to see where the S31 show ends up airing.

When we know that it could give us an idea of where a Pike show would end up if it happens.

I'd love to see a Pike and Spock 5 year mission series. As long as they brought back that Roddenberry formula, of an optimistic future. And not that mess that was discovery..

They could if they wanted to, the last part of S2 felt like it was really there as a lead in to such a show.

It would have a better chance at success than Picard or the S31 show although there is no reason or need to choose between them as CBS said they want a Star Trek show on all year round, it really depends on whether they can get buy in for it from CBS execs and Mount/Peck/Romijn onboard, I have no doubt they would go for it if the price is right although Mount seemed to indicate he would want to have some control over plot and storylines, cant say I blame him after Discovery S1.

They would be better off playing it straight with such a series, no mirror universe, no time travel, no AI and no Discovery Shroom Drive, everything is in place with recognisable D7 cruisers, S31 going underground and plenty of time before the Enterprise will welcome its next Captain.

Star Trek like Good Ol' Gene used to make. USS Enterprise, white male Captain, Warp Factor 9! Where the Captain can bang a three-breasted woman because CGI makes that possible now, then he talks about how great Humanity is and how everyone's considered an equal. After that, he asks the Yeoman for a cup of coffee and rejects everything the Noble Savage says out of hand. In and out of a situation in 45 minutes. All of a planet of the week's problems solved in the same amount of time. Engage!

People who want this from a Pike Series better be prepared to be disappointed because that's not what it'll be like. Captain Pike won't "Make Trek Great Again".

Agreed. For me. The 5 year mission to explore is more exciting then any of the DISCO plots, any day. I was literally bored, annoyed, and confused thru much of S1, and not to mention the shroom universe and scrappy angel plot from S2. What's with the whole red angel, red matter, red gloop, etc that keeps cropping up in Kurtzman work? Bad reboot..(Bad Robot) lol

I dont mind big season long storylines but ideally that should be brought in after a season of smaller single episode storylines to help flesh out some of the main characters and establish a baseline for the show.

All of the other Star Trek series did it, in fact pretty much every scifi show does it, I think they went a bit mad for the first season which didnt work and had to somewhat reset in the latter half of it, season 2 was more thought out than season 1 was but it relied very heavily on Pikes presence which shouldnt be necessary in season 2 of a show, the main cast should be able to carry the show by then.

Is it really necessary to fix time/space and/or save the federation in every season.

I know this is a satire, but it honestly is exactly what I want to watch. *Shrug*. I'm finally watching ENT because it is the closest thing to TOS/STC that is out there. Yes, I want a Pike/Number One/Spock/Boyce/Tyler/Colt show.

You can do weekly exploratory stories and still have an overarching yearly arc. See, X Files, Fringe, Supernatural, and anything the CW airs, including just about every comic book show on TV.

Equal doesn't mean that everyone is the same rank (or doesn't have to perform their assigned duties to their chosen position) or that the Captain has to always listen to his XO/Science officer/Doctor's suggestion. Captain's perogative.... It seems like this entire post is rather reaching. *Something* needs to Make Trek Great Again.

Lets keep politics and agendas out of this, please. :) (just my opinions.)

You're not the problem. People complaining about "SJWs" and basically saying "girls have cooties, there's too many of them!" are the problem. Likewise, Rand is the Yeoman getting the coffee, Worf is the Noble Savage whose input is constantly rejected, and Gene Roddenberry originally wanted Troi to have three breasts. Everything I typed in that post is based on something that's actually from Roddenberry Trek.

I don't object to a Pike Series. I object to what some people would want out of it.

I understand and respect that you personally want different things out of Star Trek than I do. ENT is the one Star Trek series I couldn't get into at all. And I like Continues for what it is, but seeing it made me realize that I wanted something else for the next official production.

Seeing Continues is what got me back into Trek after a 15 year absence, and I don't think I could ever stomach a return to the 24th century. I'm enjoying ENT way more then I ever expected. I've watched Discovery, but enjoyed the Orville more.

I have no problem with women in command or diversity of crew - I WANT the show to have Number One in a big and commanding role. I wanted Shelby to stay as part of the TNG cast. I just don't see why a yeoman getting coffee, or an alien (or human, for that matter)'s opinion being ignored by the Captain, makes a difference either way. Chakotay is even more literally that cliche, but thats about bad writing more then anything else. Spock was the original "Noble Savage" trope in the wagon train parallels, but his opinion was ALWAYS listened to. We all know Gene loved his boobies. I guess I just feel that a true equal mix that doesn't shine a light on any stereotypes is the way to go, and in that regard, who cares if the captain is white, or if a subordinate brings coffee? the time period and love for the character of Pike is bringing a white captain, not any mandate or anything racial. True equal isn't stacking the deck in any one area to "make up" for perceived past transgressions. Just give us good characters we want to see and good adventures that make logical sense.

I dunno what the fuss about a "white guy Captain" is in the context of the Discoverse, anyway - every Captain that Discovery has had so far has been a white guy, and there's a fair chance that next year's Captain will be played by White Guy Doug Jones.
