News ‘Swamp Thing’ series In works at DC Digital Service, ‘Metropolis’ in redevelopment

No matter what exactly happened there, it definitely seems to be a much more complicated situation than just your standard, it didn't get enough viewers.
 
Yeah, at this point, nothing to do but ride it out I suppose. WB streaming should be an interesting wildcard in the TV universe.

Back to the show itself, Mark Verheiden teases us on the next episode via Twitter:
A little tease for #SwampThing episode 3, coming out this Friday. Remember the guy in episode 2 who wound up R.I.P., as in Resting In Pieces? You may not have seen the last of him.

*screaming and cursing* That's so fucking disappointing. The mystical side of the DC Universe is one of the strongest parts of the DCU and features several of the most ambitious comic runs in superhero history. There's an entire world there that non-comic readers have yet to have the pleasure of knowing that has a completely different flavor than anything else at DC or Marvel.

*heavy sigh* Oh, well. Hopefully Mark Verheiden's Swamp Thing works as a great 10-part miniseries. I'll take an excellent Swamp Thing miniseries over no Swamp Thing at all any day.

So, in recent days you haven't trusted reports from Deadline, Business Insider and The Wall Street Journal. Is there any business/entertainment industry news source that you do trust? I get not trusting speculation on Reddit or potential clickbait on sites likes ScreenRant or Collider or something, but come on.

I never said I didn't trust Deadline; I said that I had no reason to believe that their single-sentence comment about the DCU service being "re-evaluated" meant that the service's future was in jeopardy.

I haven't seen anything from the Wall Street Journal, but will say that my reasons for discounting the article from Business Insider that was posted above stem from my participation in DC Universe as a subscriber and member of its online community (I do not want to directly share information from said community without first receiving permission).

The Wall Street Journal article was the one I linked to reporting that both Cinemax and the extremely popular HBO Now are being folded into Warner's streaming service that launches in the fall.

If HBO Now is being folded into it, DC Universe is obviously being folded into it as well. There's no way Warner Bros. is shutting down HBO Now but keeping DC Universe running.

You honestly don't see how news that Warner Bros. is combining all of their streaming services (including HBO Now, by freaking far their most profitable streaming service) into a single streaming service that costs just one or two dollars more than HBO Now means that DC Universe will be combined into it too?! :wtf:

No.. because one set of those things can be true without the other having to be true.

Two premium cable subscription streaming services being folded into another brand-new general-content streaming service does not automatically mean that a completely separate service that combines both comics and a very specific set of streaming content is going to be as well.
 
If WB cancels Doom Patrol but keeps Titans then I will lose my mind. DP is the best thing the DC streaming service has done (and the only good live action thing), and it deserves to live more then the generic, angsty show for angry teenages that uses the Titans name. There have been and will always be gritty crap like Titans, Doom Patrol is the kind of enjoyably weird that we really only get from places like streaming services.
 
Has anybody heard if Boomerang is potentially going to be effected by them merging streaming services into the general WB one?

As I've said, I've got both Netflix and Amazon and dislike them both, from their user interfaces to their reams of content that doesn't appeal to me in the slightest. I resent (you can probably tell) subscribing to them just to see a tiny handful of shows that I am invested in.

Sadly, I think a few big players will strip their content from each other's platforms and conventional channels leaving little option but to sign up.

You'd rather atomize the market so that instead of having two services with reams of content you don't want (but you'll eat the cost to get a few shows you really do)... you'd have a dozen of those situations?

I'd be interested in checking out Doom Patrol and Swamp Thing and maaaybe even Titans, but I've said many times that as long as DC Universe is it's own thing that's not gonna happen because it's not worth the cost to me. I'll sub for one month just for Young Justice, but that's it.

But if they were bundled as part of a Warner Bros package that included HBO, Cinemax, and WB movies? You bet your ass I'm signing up. I'd do it even faster if they were all available on Netflix even with a surcharge; that's how I have HBO right now though Amazon because I don't want to fool with the bullshit of a dozen different services.

Quite the contrary - I'd prefer everything to be on conventional channels as it was pre-streaming, but that's not going to happen.

Failing that, the fewer streaming services the better, rather than every studio having their own.
 
After watching Swamp Thing episode 2, I have to say that I wouldn't have been surprised if this had gotten cancelled just based on how the show is. I almost fell asleep in this episode. The whole thing was like one of those terrible, glacially slow horror movies that get great reviews from snobby critics (stuff like The VVitch). It has some ok elements, and when it decides to actually do something the horror/gore elements are done well, but it needed to be about 20% more action oriented. As it is, the show is not offensively bad like Titans, but its just not interesting enough to keep watching for me.

Also, yeah, that was totally Madame Xanadu :rolleyes:. Someone should have told the Swamp Thing producers that the CW Arrowverse shows have the market cornered on "in name only" versions of DC characters. I mean, it didn't bug me that bad, its not even something that would be on a list of reasons that I didn't like this episode, but its obvious they had a generic fortune teller type character and then decided to slap a DC characters name on her.

Fans of streaming service DC Universe’s short-lived “Swamp Thing” who have been hoping to own a physical copy of the complete season/series will be happy to hear that Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will be releasing all ten episodes on Blu-ray and DVD on February 11, 2020. Prior to that, the complete series will be available to own on Digital on December 2nd.
