Supergirl - Season Four

Warner is making me nervous regarding the Blu-ray release of this season. Blu-rays for Arrow and The Flash were announced almost three weeks ago, but no word on Supergirl yet. Nothing on Legends or Black Lightning, either.

I know there are those who are eager for physical media to die in favor of a world where nothing actually exists anymore, but I'm not one of those people, and I want my Blu-rays. I feel like surely this will get a release -- if nothing else, it's kind of a bad look for Warner if they only release the CW DC shows fronted by white dudes -- but I wonder what's the delay?

(And I'm actually hoping to ensure an immediate announcement by the act of posting this, since that's how these things usually happen.)

Now that the season is over I'm curious about something, and Google is no help. While I've skipped this season and will never even watch clips of it, I also skipped Arrow S4 and Flash S4 because they were terrible but both came back with really good Season 5's, so I've been hoping that Supergirl might accomplish that. But, that hinges on an answer to this question:

Does Alex get her memories back by the end of S4?

If she does, I'll be giving Season 5 a chance. If she doesn't, I'll never watch another episode of Supergirl outside of the big crossovers, because fuck that completely pointless soap opera bullshit.

She does, and the scene where it happens is a high point of the season. I wasn't crazy about the storyline either, but that scene paid it off beautifully.

Ok, thanks for the answer (the wiki hasn't been updated, and google was useless for that question). Then, I'm open to giving Season 5 a chance. I don't know why the fourth Season is cursed with DCCW shows, but hopefully SG makes up for it like Flash and Arrow did (and hopefully Flash and SG don't pull an Arrow and have a godawful Season 6 after a return to form in S5).

I only buy my TV shows on DVD as a personal choice, which means that I'll sadly miss out on being able to have all 3 hours of Elseworlds in one place, although that's not that much of a dealbreaker for me since I intend on buying both Arrow S7 and The Flash S5 on DVD too (as well as Legends of Tomorrow).

I still need to find a way to get my hands on copies of The Flash '90 and Constantine, and then I will own every single live-action installment of the Arrowverse that is (or will be) currently available.

What would be the reason for that "personal choice"? Blu-rays are an objectively superior format. If you own a TV these days, it's almost certainly an HDTV, which means it would obviously be best served by a high definition image. Blu-rays cost just a few dollars more than DVDs, and a basic Blu-ray player can be bought these days with spare change from your couch cushions. Short of severe economic hardship (in which case you should probably forgo home media purchases altogether), I can't imagine why anyone would buy a DVD when there's a Blu-ray option available.

No, not really. At least not universally.

If you have a sub 40” 1080p TV and don’t plan to get a new one soon, the difference for casual viewers (those who are not A/V enthusiasts) is not very significant. However, if one is planning to buy a 40-55” TV now or the near future, then a move to Blu-Ray (at least for new purchases) is probably worth the effort. It’s nearly impossible to find a non 4K TV at 40” or above (any that might be found are crappy) and 49-55” is the sweet spot where the majority of purchases are made. Most 4K TVs do a decent job upscaling 1080p but few do a good job upscaling 480p (DVD resolution). Those that do a good job tend to be the expensive sets.

Again, the image quality is objectively, measurably superior, and not by a little. If you can't discern it, I dunno what to tell you.

Consistency.

I have decided to use Blu-ray for movies, though, and plan to eventually convert every film that I currently own on DVD to the Blu-ray format while continuing to purchase television on DVD for as long as that format is available.

For what it's worth, I picked up the first issue of DC's new "Leviathan" event yesterday. Most of the first issue consists of the heroes--Batman, Lois Lane, and Steve Trevor--running through the usual list of suspects--Talia, Luthor, Darkseid, etc.--before concluding that this new "Leviathan" is probably someone else.

How much SUPERGIRL will draw from these new comics is anyone's guess.

In regards to the CW ratings I don't think they do themselves any favors in the modern TV landscape to restrict their on demand offerings to the last couple episodes of the season. I know more than once I was going to give a show a chance and didn't bother when I couldn't start from the beginning. The idea is probably to try to push people to purchase it through some other option or maybe to discourage time-shifted viewing for some reason but I don't think they should do that for the current season at least.

^^I agree that its irritating to have only 5 of the most recent eps on the CW website, but if you have netflix the "current season" starts to play soon after the finale is broadcast.

Yeah, that bugs me too. I tend to rotate through a lot of shows, and sometime I will go almost a month between episodes if I get forget about a show. That was actually one of the main reasons, besides Star Trek: Disovery, that I got CBS All Access. With that I can get access to the complete seasons of their shows, not just the last 5 episodes.

I'm surprised they don't do a crossover only disc, seems like a no brainer to me. Do they put the crossover episodes of the other shows on the season sets?
