GhostBusters 3 is Finally Being Made. (2020 Release)

But yeah, if you're trying to say that Monty Python would not have been successful, if they had done things that upset the ways by which they had been successful, yeah, maybe so, of course.
There's no need to delicately parse my words. I'm only saying what many others here have said: that, between the plot, the heroes, the villain, the side characters, the OG cameos, and the bit players (such as the tour guide and the university president and the mayor and the federal agents), everyone and everything in GB16 was zany, and in a movie 24 minutes longer than Python/Grail. (Or, in the case of the blu-ray extended cut, 41 minutes longer.) As Ebert said about action in The Mummy Returns, after a while, constant zaniness is just plain exhausting. (And, IMHO, even Python/Grail, while certainly gut-busting in its first half, palpably overstays its welcome, while the similarly short Brian fares better, due in large part to Brian's moderating/grounding character.)

I loved Kevin so much.
Ok, but his character was, quite simply and literally, too mentally impaired to function outside of a permanent, nursing-staffed group home, and our heroines kept him around for ogling and made sexual remarks about him anyhow. I know that Dana gets raped (albeit while unconscious/possessed) in the original Ghostbusters, but if we're being honest, let's be honest. ;)

While Ray and Egon did make sexual comments about her, Dana was directly exploited by one of the Ghostbusters, who used her crisis to ingratiate himself to her. She was played straight, no silliness, no zaniness, and as a person who was in need of help, putting the Ghostbusters in a position of authority over her. Venkman aggressively pursued her.

Kevin was ogled by Erin, yes, and she tried in a passively flirty way to get his attention. The other three didn't seem physically interested in him at all. Hell, Abby didn't understand Erin's attraction to Kevin and expressed surprise when she saw how much Erin was starry eyed over him. Holtzmann seemed more fascinated by his lack of intellectual awareness. They hired him because no one else applied for the job. Kevin was played with a lot of silliness to him, like when he covered his eyes over the loud sound, or when he showed them a photo of himself topless "playing saxophone" and "listening to saxophone," by which in that photo he had a saxophone held up to his ear.

There is a very different power dynamic in both of these situations.

I have been waiting for this day for so long.

I wonder if they'd be able to convince Rick Moranis to come out of retirement for an appearance?

I hope Rick Moranis comes back. I want Jeanine to be the new Mayor with him as her assistant or Attorney General. They are still a thing.
The only problem with Janine as mayor is that it eliminates the conflict with the authorities. Janine knows about the twinkie. Janine knows that there is shit out there that will turn you white. When weird things start to happen, who is Janine going to call?

That trope is played out though. They could even make it joke. Not mention it until they have to deal with the big bad and call the Mayor for assistance. Cut to Jeanine answering her phone yelling “What do you want?”

Rather than not mention it at all, make oblique references to not wanting to deal with the mayor for 2/3 the movie until the reveal. Yeah, I could see that working and being funny.

They gotta go national. Ghosts from coast to coast and the President's an idiot.
