Sakonna

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
SPOILER WARNING: This thread will feature spoilers for Discovery season 2. If you wish to remain unspoiled, turn back now!

So, next up in these themed elimination games: Section 31!

THE RULES. The basic idea is your standard elimination game. Below is a list of Section 31 episodes from DS9, ENT, and DIS, plus a Kelvin timeline movie. Eliminate your least favorite or the one you deem the 'worst.' Please provide an EXPLANATION for why you are eliminating your choice and be sure to copy and paste the list with your choice removed.

SPOILER POLICY NOTE: Checked with the mods, and, with the Disco spoilers labeled at the top, it is not necessary to individually spoiler-tag your elimination reasons, if you are eliminating a season 2 Disco episode.

Finally, please leave at least 2 eliminations by other posters before you eliminate another episode.

No tactical voting! You cannot remove an episode just because you feel they would threaten your preferred episode's chance to win.

And thanks once again to @Farscape One for helping me put the list together!
Enjoy!

And I will start it off by axing "The Red Angel." This is the worst Disco episode so far, so talky and weighed down by awkwardly overcomplicated plotting. Even "Extreme Measures", bad as it is, isn't the low-point of it's series.

I'll take an axe to Extreme Measures. A botched end to the S31/DS9 thread, which is a real shame.

I'll take an axe to Extreme Measures.
Aww, I was sharpening my axe to take out that one. :(

Affliction is done for explaining the klingon make-up change. So fanboyish and unnecessary.

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS goes into... darkness. I hated the movie.

I'll take an axe to Extreme Measures. A botched end to the S31/DS9 thread, which is a real shame.

The funny part is, I remember being bummed that DS9 hadn't thought of Section 31 earlier, it was such a great concept that they couldn't find sufficient time to payoff. "That would have been so fun to explore more! And now we'll never hear of it again."

If I only knew...

I might as well get rid of the other part of the Klingon forehead two-parter. I think at some point in the episode you can hear the faint sound of a barrel being scraped. ;)

DS9 Season 6: "Inquisition"
DS9 Season 7: "Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges"
ENT Season 4: "Demons"
ENT Season 4: "Terra Prime"

DIS Season 2: "Such Sweet Sorrow, Part 2"

Point Of Light is extinguished. Georgiou is awesome but there's too much going on in this one, and the Klingon plot overall is just messy.

DS9 Season 6: "Inquisition"
DS9 Season 7: "Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges"
ENT Season 4: "Demons"
ENT Season 4: "Terra Prime"
DIS Season 2: "Saints Of Imperfection"
DIS Season 2: "Light And Shadows"
DIS Season 2: "Project Daedalus"
DIS Season 2: "Perpetual Infinity"
DIS Season 2: "Through The Valley Of Shadows"
DIS Season 2: "Such Sweet Sorrow, Part 1"
DIS Season 2: "Such Sweet Sorrow, Part 2"

Saints of Imperfection. It was such a convoluted way to get Culber back, I know it was by design so that they don't get a death cure by making it easily repeatable but it really led to a mess of a story. They should have not killed him in the first place.

DS9 Season 6: "Inquisition"
DS9 Season 7: "Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges"
ENT Season 4: "Demons"
ENT Season 4: "Terra Prime"
DIS Season 2: "Light And Shadows"
DIS Season 2: "Project Daedalus"
DIS Season 2: "Perpetual Infinity"
DIS Season 2: "Through The Valley Of Shadows"
DIS Season 2: "Such Sweet Sorrow, Part 1"
DIS Season 2: "Such Sweet Sorrow, Part 2"

Goodbye, "Such Sweet Sorrow, Part One". The entire episode is bland and seems to be there just to meet the extended episode count.

DS9 Season 6: "Inquisition"
DS9 Season 7: "Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges"
ENT Season 4: "Demons"
ENT Season 4: "Terra Prime"
DIS Season 2: "Light And Shadows"
DIS Season 2: "Project Daedalus"
DIS Season 2: "Perpetual Infinity"
DIS Season 2: "Through The Valley Of Shadows"
DIS Season 2: "Such Sweet Sorrow, Part 2"

I will get rid of "Light And Shadows" for it's insane timeline problems. They explicitly reference that all the events on Discovery take place over less than 5 hours. Meanwhile, in that same less-than-5-hours time, Burnham travels to Vulcan, convinces Amanda to take her to Spock, goes to Spock, is convinced by Sarek to turn Spock over to Section 31, actually does turn Spock over to Section 31, observes enough troubling behavior on the Section 31 ship to change her mind, successfully devises and executes a rescue mission of Spock, and then they escape off to Talos. Less than 5 hours!

On first viewing, I was thinking how clever they were to put a time anomaly in the Discovery story, to even allow them to tell these two stories in parallel. I was certain there was going to be some button where Burnham contacts Discovery and is reporting back on all these events. "But you only left 5 hours ago?!" "Captain, I've been gone for 4 weeks." And then we'd see that time was slowed for Discovery itself the whole time, they were just unaware of it.

Then they didn't do that, and it was just sloppy plotting. Disappointing.

DS9 Season 6: "Inquisition"
DS9 Season 7: "Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges"
ENT Season 4: "Demons"
ENT Season 4: "Terra Prime"
DIS Season 2: "Project Daedalus"
DIS Season 2: "Perpetual Infinity"
DIS Season 2: "Through The Valley Of Shadows"
DIS Season 2: "Such Sweet Sorrow, Part 2"

Inquisition, I rewatched it a few months ago and it's not nearly as good as I remember. It's actually kinda boring and the way Sloan simply reveals section 31 is weird, they go through so much effort to trick Bashir and then they don't alter his memories and let him blab to Sisko?

DS9 Season 7: "Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges"
ENT Season 4: "Demons"
ENT Season 4: "Terra Prime"
DIS Season 2: "Project Daedalus"
DIS Season 2: "Perpetual Infinity"
DIS Season 2: "Through The Valley Of Shadows"
DIS Season 2: "Such Sweet Sorrow, Part 2"

Demons is exorcised. Not bad, but hardly a definitive Section 31 show. Besides, the other episodes are better.

DS9 Season 7: "Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges"
ENT Season 4: "Terra Prime"
DIS Season 2: "Project Daedalus"
DIS Season 2: "Perpetual Infinity"
DIS Season 2: "Through The Valley Of Shadows"
DIS Season 2: "Such Sweet Sorrow, Part 2"

So Discovery started off so strongly in season two, but then the last third was a lot more confusing. It was entertaining to watch, just not to think about. Through The Valley of Shadows is a perfect example of this, so it goes.

DS9 Season 7: "Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges"
ENT Season 4: "Terra Prime"
DIS Season 2: "Project Daedalus"
DIS Season 2: "Perpetual Infinity"
DIS Season 2: "Such Sweet Sorrow, Part 2"

Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges, for inventing section 31 DS9 really didn't do a lot of interesting things with it. Framing an innocent person to get your spy into a position of power is ... normal? I mean it's not nice but of course starfleet intelligence would do that, that shouldn't be a surprise to Sisko or even require section 31 getting involved.

ENT Season 4: "Terra Prime"
DIS Season 2: "Project Daedalus"
DIS Season 2: "Perpetual Infinity"
DIS Season 2: "Such Sweet Sorrow, Part 2"

All of the good ones are gone! Perpetual Infinity next then. The other DIS episodes were stronger. As interesting as it was seeing Burnham's mother in action as the Red Angel, by the episode's end my head was thrashed.

ENT Season 4: "Terra Prime"
DIS Season 2: "Project Daedalus"
DIS Season 2: "Such Sweet Sorrow, Part 2"

Project Daedalus goes just not up to the other still a very good episode with some error in execution

ENT Season 4: "Terra Prime"
DIS Season 2: "Such Sweet Sorrow, Part 2

Terra Prime is out. Not bad but not great either imo and I wasn't a fan of the manufactured baby drama.

Such Sweet Sorrow, Part 2 wins. I loved the Burnham/Spock scenes and Discovery's uncertain future, it feels like a new beginning and I'm excited for what comes next.
