Things that frustrate us all

Custom tailoring is anticapitalist though so it won't happen.

Should I rant about my frustrations with capitalism now?

No, better save it for when I am far, far, FAR drunker.

I think you're confusing Capitalism with Consumerism. Supporting a local business by going to a professional tailor would support the Capitalist system, because you are helping the small business generate income. Consumerism is the social pressure or expectation that you should consume more goods and services. Instead of buying tons of crap off the rack, trying to find something that fits, you purchase fewer things and get them tailored to fit you. So you wouldn't be giving in to consumerism, which tells us to buy more, even things we don't need.

The problem being that, in America, the two have merged so completely that they are one in the same,

But that still doesn't address the most important question! Are my wrists abnormally small, or do all women struggle with ill fitting bracelets?!

My wrists are also 5.75 and bracelets never fit me well. I like to wear two around my neck for a choker because most are at least 7”

I have bunch of teeny pliers and have been altering my jewelry a long time. I should learn to solder/weld because then I’d be unstoppable. I’d make my own dang car. My kid did at college but it’s not registered for road use.

eta: PIP's poverty means that one suit is probably the only one he owned. Most people's clothing was hand made - he was caught up in the middle of the industrial revolution afaik so mass-produced clothing except for basics like men's shirts and wasn't widespread yet. So if you are making the clothing by hand anyway why not make it fit the wearer? So the tradeoff would be one suit that fit you perfectly but had to take very good care of and would costs you pretty dearly to replace.

What frustrates me are attention whores who accuse you of starting drama when you ask for the tiniest bit of attention for yourself. Seriously, this person needs to be applauded for every little thing they do, then when I try to talk about my issues, they say that I'm wearing them out. Um, you're wearing me out with your neverending need for approval!

I couldn't agree more, can't stand these attention whores who are continually stealing my thunder!! There should be a law against that. ;)

my wrists are a bit more than 7 inches but I am unusually muscular for a woman (a side-effect of my job)
TSQ, couldn't you get medical wristlets that consist of removable segments? Those can easily be adjusted in length. I use the "Italian Charmes" ones, with customized / engraved segments (available at Amazon). The standard is silver-coloured but I believe there are also gold coloured ones available.

Auntie, how about a vacation lottery? Write all the places you'd like to visit on scraps of paper and put them in a big jam jar. Then let your hubby pull a few, (3 to 8, I'd say) depending on whether you want to make it a 1 or 2 week vacation.

Argh-moment today: due to my arthrosis many of my rings don't fit me anymore :( I'll have them be widened by a jeweller when I have a few Euros to spend. (on the positive side: a few rings I inherited from my granny and which were too wide fit me now =) )

While we're on the subject of ill-fitting clothes and stuff like that, here's what frustrates me: HATS. :scream:

As most of you know, I'm a baseball fanatic, but I have a hell of a time getting caps that fit. I have a huge head - I wear, like, a size 8 1/2 cap. But you can't get caps that big at the ballparks, they always max out at size 8. And there aren't exactly a lot of places online which sell caps that big, either. Le sigh. :sigh:

There are those caps which are supposedly one-size-fits-all, but those won't fit me unless I unfasten them all the way, then the strap goes flapping around on the back of my head and people keep telling me to fasten the hat. Then I entertain the notion of fastening my fist to their face.

So I finally decided to google wrist sizes and the results say that 6.5 inch wrist circumference is "extra small" for women.

Mine are right around 6.5, but I struggle with the concept of anything about me being considered "extra small"!

I had found a chart online a while back that compared Barbie's unrealistic measurements to American women's averages. Apparently the average wrist size for an American woman is 6 - 7 inches. How can something right in the middle of "average" be considered "extra small"?

I opted for a classic cheat: I bought the child's size! Great tip for shirts too. Though I have a huge head, like MLB, but I can buy men's hats. Funny thing is that I'm crazy muscular as well (side effect of being an athlete throughout college), but I'm compact: lots of muscle and curves on a small, 5'3" frame. Just goes back to "standard" clothing being made for a very limited and not actually standard group of people.
Standardized body images are just bad and a general frustration. Another example is weight. Because I'm so muscular, I'm a lot heavier than I look. My BMI is within the normal range but borderline, and since I'm diabetic, medical professionals are always extra keen to make an issue about weight. (I also have a very round face, so can look "chubby" if my physique is covered). On a few occasions I've had doctors start The Talk about my weight, only for me to remove an oversized sweatshirt or other baggy article of clothing and have them instantly pull back when they see my actual figure. Hell, my waist is 26", but it's gotten to the point where I intentionally wear form-fitting clothes when seeing a new doctor just to avoid the chance they'll fucking bring it up again.
