Still a lot of questions. I dunno, there were humans in the TNG and DS9 era who thought the Federation was the bad guy, too. (The Maquis, for example.)

But when the Terran empire collapsed in the MU, perhaps lots of Terrans took refuge in the Prime, infiltrated the Fed, and reestablished the empire. ;)

So, nothing new here, since Chabon confirmed that the V’draysh was the Federation months ago.

"Calypso" is seemingly 1000 years beyond the 32nd century...

More specifically, 1000 years after Discovery was "abandoned", which leads to thinking it was 1000 years after the point they jumped to.

They could introduce some other element, like Discovery jumped back in time, and was then abandoned in a place Control couldn't find her and stayed there for 1000 years.

It is? I haven’t seen season 2 yet, but I thought that it was only 50 years after the end of the season finale (spoilers...you know what happened.)

Zora said she had been waiting for the crew for 1000 years, but never when that wait started. The assumption is the ship goes forward 930 years, then gets left for another 1000 years. There's no evidence of a nearly 2000 year gap.

If the Georgiou Series takes place in the 23rd Century, Georgiou has to get back somehow. Maybe it's through Discovery? Or maybe not. But, if it is, Discovery would still have to stay out of sight, somewhere that can't be detected while Zora develops. Just another piece of the puzzle.

Or "Calypso" takes place in 4000-something. Occam's Razor.

Wild Speculation Mode: The Federation is still around as late as the 31st Century. So the third season of DSC could show the beginning of the V'draysh and "Calypso" could take place long after it's been established.

Who knows? Maybe they abandon the ship into a "time bubble" or something, and it's only a half hour for them. It will be interesting to see just how this plays out.

I'm getting more okay with it being in the far future, as it looks like there will be some vage callouts to the universe we know.

All said, this news piece isn't exactly earth-shattering.

Even if the V'draysh are the Federation, it doesn't mean they're evil.

For all we know, Craft and his ilk could be the bad guys.

Time differentials are a finicky thing when it comes to entering temporal rifts, as we've seen in VOY, plus Nero and other incidents.

We already know that time travel is common knowledge in the future, thanks to Temporal Agents, so I find it quite easy to believe Georgiou can come back to the 23rd century relatively easily. Perhaps the whole crew end up coming back, or even coming back to a later time period, post Voyager for example, and abandon Discovery as per calypso. A new ship Discovery could be built as a replacement/homage.

One more item then I'm done. They could have their cake and eat it too. The Fall of the Federation could be like the Fall of Rome. It fell in 476 AD, right? Wrong. Only half of the Roman Empire fell. We now refer to the other half, in the East, as the Byzantine Empire. The V'draysh could be like the Byzantines. Alcor IV could be like one of the nations in Western Europe.

Or the conflict between Craft's people and the V'draysh might be more nuanced than simply "one side being good and one side being evil."

If we find out Tilly has a massive obsession with Betty Boop, we'll know.

We might even get a background for the whole "The V'draysh loves relics from The Long Ago" thing and we'll find out the whole war was actually an apocalyptic scale Federation civil war fought over the greatest cultural relic from The Long Ago - Tilly's 1500 teraquad media library.

1 side took the Betty Boop material and evolved accordingly, the other side took the Beastie Boys music, and the 2 sides could not coexist.

The Holy Roman Empire was German. It began in 962 when Otto I was crowned Emperor by the pope and was dissolved by Napoleon in 1806. The Byzantine/Eastern Roman Empire was a separate entity.

I stand corrected. I just looked it up. It's been a while since I took Western Civ. Almost 20 years. :p

    Editing my earlier post accordingly.

EDIT -- So note to anyone reading: If any of the characters in DSC S3 gets anything wrong about TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT, or DSC S1-S2, remember that to them it's Ancient History. The natives won't remember most of it well even if they were taught about it. And whatever happened in TOS and TNG/DS9/VOY, everything in-between, and everything afterwards will be a lot to take in for the crew of Discovery too. Canonistas should go easy on them. ;)
