Just not a show that I see discussed very often, pretty much anywhere. Which seems to be a big part of Parrot Analytics analysis.

We do know it was the 5th most popular series on Netflix in the UK in April.

Yeah, give folks a statistic that they either really like or that makes them really mad and most don't look very closely at how accurate it is or what the source is.

They want to believe. Just like a lot of the people supporting Abdin.

It's impressive how Axanar has endured as the Great Lost Cause in the minds of fans who don't like the state of the official franchise. The persistence of this myth concerning that monumental grift threatens to put the bards of ancient Greece to shame.

The Axanar script is out there. Enjoy it. I hear he's still asking for money.

That is how it was pitched, and that's the problem. It's the same as the narrative around this lawsuit, that CBS couldn't come up with original ideas and is mishandling the Star Trek brand.

Neither is accurate, but let's not let facts interfere with railing against CBS and their evilness.

It's extra sad that they're just mad that CBS is catering to their exact tastes in Star Trek.

I think it's because "Prelude to Axanar" - quite honestly - looked awesome. They did something even the most professional directors in Hollywood struggle with - a modern take on the TOS era that just works. Their USS Ares is frankly one of the best fan designs out there, and makes the TOS aesthetic work and faithfully but still look modern. And everything that was on screen depicting what "A Klingon-Federation war during the TOS era, as produced today" should look like, was a much, much better fit than anything that DIS season 1 put on screen.

That being said - the acting/plot was already close to non-existent, and far from what a convincing narrative should deliver. And nobody likes reading fan scripts, so most people aren't aware of what the final product would have been - they just remember the honestly impressive looking trailer. And yeah... of course the money extracting scheme... Yeah.... But again: Most fans (except the ones donating money) weren't directly affected by that - they just saw the nice images.

And still. Despite me really getting into DIS as of season 2 - I personally have much, much less problems integrating even only the trailer for Axanar into the traditional Star Trek timeline (from ENT to TOS and TNG, DS9, VOY) - than I have reconciling it with DIS' spore drive, Giger-esque mullrat klingons and other questionable continuity choices.

It even goes beyond that. A lot at this point are just predesposed to dislike anything coming out of CBS Trek-wise and I do blame some of the youtube culture (same ones that have been pushing Abdin's claim) as part of that. I already see a lot of people assuming Picard is going to be bad when we don't even know what the name of the show is going to be yet.

    Agreed.

Though the degree to which Alec Peters has anything much to do with that is shaky at best, and I still say that his throwing shade on Discovery for not being "true Star Trek" is disingenous given that the main legimate story issue with DSC s1 was that tried the "war arc" thing far too soon (IMO s2 and s1 were at least somewhat the wrong way around), and Axanar leans pretty heavyly on exactly the same thing only 'improving' on it by aping classic visuals (if somewhat of a weird combo of pre-TOS and some filmera stylings).

Well, it's now been a little over two months since the last memorandums were submitted to the Judge by both sides.
Either she is really, Really busy with other things or this case just isn't that important on her docket.

    Addendum:
Grazing around the internetz I found this...

Seems a few lawyers don't have much respect for this particular Judge.

Exactly so. Fan productions and trailers and the like have all demonstrated that the themes and stories they want are darker, edgier, less utopian, than prior Star Treks. Looking at more war stories, more action and more direct threats to the Federation. And yet, the moment they do it is the moment that they get taken to task over it.

As much as DSC is not the way I would have gone about it I credit the production team for continuing forward with their ideas with the spore drive, with the Klingon War, and Section 31.

There's legitimate reasons to believe that Picard will be bad considering the team behind it. If Kurtzman had stepped aside and delegated more creative control to an independent team it would be a different story. But as it is now, Picard (and really all spinoffs) feel like career lifeboat projects to get away from the wreckage of Discovery and hope that some new concept gains greater traction.

Your logic is... peculiar. So supposedly DSC is such a massive failure, that the only answer is tons more Trek? Everything indicates the exact opposite, but keep up that creative thinking.
