The least disliked episode of VOY - Season Five

BlueStuff

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
This is a game that we play every few years, and it's generally a lot of fun, providing a chance to mentally revisit those episodes you may not have thought about in a while. With that in mind, why not play again?

So, here's the game. The basic idea is your standard elimination game. I'll provide a list of the episodes for each season and you need to eliminate your least favorite or the one you deem the 'worst.' Please provide an EXPLANATION for why you are eliminating your choice and be sure to copy and paste the list with your choice removed. Finally, please leave at least 2 eliminations by other posters before you eliminate another episode.

No tactical voting! You cannot remove an episode just because you feel they would threaten your preferred episode's chance to win.
Pretty simple. Enjoy! :bolian:

There are several I'd love to ax on here, but I'll start with "The Fight", which just feels like such a wall of nothing. I always hate a Chakotay episode, and the guest appearance of Boothby felt so bizarre and desperate. Why did they feel a need to toss that character into Voyager at all, much less multiple times in a season?

In my view, this is Voyager's best season... meaning that a royal stinker like The Disease stands out all the more. Credit for trying something new with Harry, but it just went horribly wrong in execution.

So many to choose from but in that list "In The Flesh" really takes the cake. It just doesn't make sense. For example, why would the 8472 they captured kill himself when we know that these are practically invulnerable? What was it trying to hide? That's just stupid.

Hmm, first blood goes to Gravity, a very middle-of-the-road episode. It's just kind of there.

"Night" is quite a dreary hour for me. I really grew to hate that occasional episode structure of "now we are going to finally deal with the darkness inherent in our premise -- for one week only!"

Course Oblivion can go into Oblivion as far as I care. What a waste of an episode to have such dramatic scenes and memorable moments only for it to mean absolutely nothing in the end. The Voyager crew certainly won't remember them and I won't either. The episode should have ended differently.

Bride of Chaotica!. Just do not care about Captain Proton. I appreciate the lightheartedness and Janeway's badass spider queen outfit, but it's still basically a giant waste of time.

Eliminating Dark Frontier.

The episode that weakened the Borg permanently and made the Borg collective represented in Voyager by a single groan inducing voice.

I appreciate the ideas they're trying to explore with "Nothing Human", but the premise is so convoluted it's hard to buy into. If you need this guy's knowledge, it's bizarre to think the only way to get at it is via a hologram of his actual body fully decked out with his actual evil personality. Then, once created, it's similar nonsensical to punish him for the actions of the real person. It's as if the TNG characters reacted to Moriarty becoming real by immediately putting him on trial for the crimes his character committed in the novels -- the logic simply doesn't track.

And plus the bullshit of that split-decision ending -- we're going to use this ill-gotten knowledge JUST THIS ONCE, and then totally delete it forever, because using it (more than once) would be wrong. Wha?

I was never a big fan of Extreme Risk. I like B'Elanna, but here she's exhibiting the kind of behaviour that would have been better explored over two or three (or more) episodes. As it is, it appears once and is forgotten about instantly.

11:59; Shannon O'Donnell's story might have made for an okay subplot in another episode, but it just isn't interesting enough to carry an entire episode.

I am getting rid of "Timeless" because of its unlikeliness. That a manic-depressive like Harry Kim would spend the remainder of his life ruining it and creating an alternate timeline to assuage his guilt, sounds almost like deja vu, but that he would get someone with a life like Chakotay to go along with it stretches it way beyond believability.

Once upon a time. I mostly remember the creepy holodeck creatures, that was supposed to be a program for children? It was nightmare inducing.

Latent Image; the basic idea of the episode is sound, but having Janeway order the entire crew to expunge all trace of Ensign Jetal's existence rather than a simpler solution like reprogramming the Doctor to believe that Kim had a better chance of survival than Jetal just seemed like a ridiculously convoluted solution.
