Spoilers Game of Thrones: The Final Season

This is a good article, but I think it's flawed on some points.

I'm speaking as someone who absolutely loved that Arya killed the Night King. It's no secret that if I felt this was some sort of PC moment, I would say something. I'm not shy about that on these boards, and Arya killing the Night King was nothing of the sort.

The article you cite implies that Jon helping is some sort of "saving face" theory, perpetuated by people that can't handle a "Mary Sue" killing the Night King. But a Mary Sue is a female character that is flawless with no training yet somehow can beat anyone and everyone because well, girl power. Arya is NOTHING like that.

The article talks about all these things that show that Arya was capable of pulling off what she did. No argument at all.

Arya is the exact opposite of a Mary Sue. I've said it before and I will say it again--based on how this episode played out, and based on everything that came before, Arya is the only character that could have pulled it off.

That doesn't mean Jon couldn't have assisted, and if he did, it does NOT take away from Arya. Not one bit.

The guy who scores the game winning touchdown on a brilliant move will get all the credit in the world, and the guy that threw the pass? Not so much. In basketball, a guy who makes a buzzer beater is a hero, and no one remembers who passed him the ball.

Even if this theory is true, and I do kind of like it, Arya is still the hero, and it doesn't take anything away.

Let's use this theory and substitute any other character for Arya. Jon Snow sees what's going on, and decides to do the same move, giving that person a chance. Podrick comes out of nowhere and leaps at the Night King. Maybe he doesn't catch him by the neck, but the Night King sees it coming. Does Podrick die? I think he does. Same move, Sam Tarley. Dead. Brienne? Great as she is? Dead.

I don't think anyone else could have stealthily made it to the Night King like Arya did, no matter how much Jon distracted the dragon.

So if Jon helped? I'm cool with it. It won't wipe the grin I've had all week because of what Arya did.

The only way someone would find this nonsense "very cool" is if they're insecure and misogynistic.

Here we go with the internet tough guy name calling again. Actually, if you are secure in how amazing Arya was, this theory doesn't challenge anything. Jon helping does not diminish anything Arya did.

All theory’s surrounding the night king are cool, cold, or freezing.

Jon Snow was not shouting “go”, nor could he see Arya. He was nowhere near, and nobody can see Arya - she’s a ghost. She spent three years learning how to be a ghost, including the exact loves she used.

Jon has given up hope. It happens, it’s realistic. It’s not a stain on his character. Arya’s victory didn’t bring anyone else down.

And if the writers come out and say that's what they intended, I'm fine with it, though he did seem to say, "go go go." You could be absolutely right in that he was nowhere near. But even if he couldn't see her, this may have been something he was privy to. Or maybe not. Maybe this is just a fan theory that is completely wrong.

In terms of Arya's skills and accomplishments, whether Jon helped her or not doesn't take anything away. She was amazing. Years of training coming together that ended up saving the world.

Nothing can diminish that.

Good episode, but a lot of strategic mistakes.
And I hope that Ghost has survived the battle, I only saw him at the start

I'm going to go with Ghost survived. Though it will be interesting if some major characters died off camera and they reveal it this week.

Ghost definitely survived. He was in the preview for the next episode.

Here's the Jon vs. Night King aerial battle slowed down and lightened up:

He's in the episode 4 promo. Must have been off in the woods somewhere gnawing on a white walker bone while everyone else was fighting.

It looked like he was going to battle, but he was actually going off to get some crisps.

And Nymeria.

I would have done the same thing If I was Ghost and they had made me smaller.
Of looked he had the size of a normal Wolf

Based on official photos from Episode 4, I'm pretty much positive that of the "major players" whom we were following during the battle survived even if it appeared that their fates were uncertain.

Nope.
I'm fine with either way. I love that Arya's skill and bravery saved the day.
I'm fine if her brother helped a little. Teamwork.
However, nothing seen on screen indicates Jon did anything to intentionally help her. Any good film maker would have made it obvious with a quick cut of Jon seeing Arya. we didn't get that, and it would be bad film making to think the audience would make such a huge assumptive leap.

The fact that instead of discussing the ramifications of the most important episode yet we are talking about brightness levels means that something went wrong.

Jon's got enough idiot-confidence in himself that I thought he might believe that if he stared Visarion down the dragon might revert to the Light Side again, now that the Night King wasn't riding him.
