Exactly. Hence i couldn't give a shit that she died more pissed off with how she died. Melisandre should have been torn apart by wights for what she did to Shereen, you know when she thought Stannis was the one to fight the White Walkers and defeat them....
I am still not sure what her arc is all about. She was a false prophet with actual powers?
No idea either. Apparently her destiny was to light some swords and a moat on fire. Both of which turned out to be completely pointless.

Actor's contracts hardly describe who is a main character or not.
I'll give you Jon, but other than that Melisandre had no fucking clue what she was doing. And she clearly didn't know back in season 3 that Arya was going to kill the Night's King considering she was convinced at the time that Stannis was the Prince who was promised.

Melisandre was there to ensure that Arya fulfilled her destiny. She's fully acknowledged since season 2 that understanding the wishes of the Lord of Light is difficult at best and has stated many times that she doesn't really know what she is doing. In the books we are led to believe that she will have a more complex role. Regardless, her presence was needed to show Arya what she had to do--even thought Melisandre didn't know this until she actually saw Arya at Winterfell.
I do think it is interesting that people are still using traditional criteria to determine who is a hero or villain on the show when the line is clearly blurred between the two--and good and evil do not necessarily align with protagonist and antagonist either. Only Sansa, Brienne, Sam and Jon definitely, and maybe Bran.

As I said, the show does not equate good with protagonist/hero. Look at Theon for BIG EXAMPLE #2. Jamie for #3.
I'm not talking about moral ambiguity, I'm saying that Melisandre is an idiot.
LOL--one could argue semantics on the term "idiot" but I think it is essentially correct. But perhaps that is in itself a commentary on the nature of prophets/believers through which the gods do their work?

That could basically apply to every character in this show, rendering it meaningless. All of them at one point or another were blinded by their beliefs. Ned lost his head because of it.

That could have also been dramatic, but was never seriously hinted at either. Weird.
My take on it was that she didn't understand all of the visions and stuff. Just an imperfect reading of the Lord of Light's intentions. Plus, she tried using them for her own ends for what she thought. It would seem to have worked out correctly only when it fit the LoL's plans.
Her real purpose was to bring Jon back to life because the alliance depended on him doing that. No one else could have. And, she helped Arya see her destiny. No one else could have done that either.
