"While CBS can’t be drawn on the terms surrounding the Netflix deal, David Stapf, president of CBS Television Studios, tells TBI that the platform has “quite a few years” left on the contract. As for whether it will re-up when the deal comes to a close, it’s a decision that “will be made then by both parties”.

Deborah Barak, president of business operations for CBS Entertainment, CBS Television Studios and CBS News, adds:

“There’s obviously been a lot of interest in the shows [All Access] has been doing, and we need to figure out the right deal for each show.

“Plus, All Access obviously has some presence in the international marketplace as well, so there are some questions.”

Star Trek has been so successful for All Access that a number of spin-offs are in the works, including a returning series on Captain Jean-Luc Picard with actor Patrick Stewart attached, as well as the Toronto-shot Section 31, starring Crazy Rich Asians actor Michelle Yeoh – set to debut on the service in a couple of years.

It all seems to be doing really well for them. They say 2/3 of their 4 million subscribers watch the ad supported version of CBS All Access, so that's even more revenue in the can.

I didn't think of this, but now it is obvious. With Disco and S31 shooting likely back to back there is no room for a Pike Enterprise show in Toronto.

Not necessarily. The Enterprise sets are already built and if they did more planetside missions they could go on location more.

Shooting and prep takes months. The sets are not built, they exist but should be disassembled at this point. They would want to balance sets/locations. Shooting 3 shows in the same studio would not work within the same time frame. Disco and S31 would have to each have a longer gap between seasons for this show to fit. It could possibly be done, but that was never the plan logistically. Now they could try to squeeze it in with the Picard show and alternate shows at the LA studio if they can get it for the whole year.

Given that Mount is not too happy to stay away from Home for 8 months, there is still a possibility that the Pike Shows are special events. Like one every 3 Months, but movie lenght. This way they could do the section 31 Show along with Disco, in the breaks do the Pike Special and keep everyone happy.

If they want season 3 to be a surprise to audiences, I could see all of the Short Treks they're filming next month being Enterprise specials, perhaps one story told over 4 shorts? That would keep Pike fans happy as well as not get in the way of their already-in-motion plans.

Of course they could also be Season 3 teasers, setting up the new 33rd Century for us.

You're forgetting that CBS is building a huge soundstage in Mississauga (outside Toronto) to be finished sometime this spring. Discovery, at the moment, films at Pinewood Toronto (one of the largest soundstages in the world).

Is it big enough for them to support 3 separate shows across a year? Or is it just what is required to alternate between DSC and S31? They already said the plan was for s31 to start after s3. I assume they are moving all production there instead of maintaining the cost of renting the current space.

Or just stories set before the finale.
