Spoilers General Disco Chat Thread

JJ wanted a planet explosion just like in his favorite IP..., Star Wars.
He actually managed to get two in the same movie and outdo Lucas.

But then JJ also got to make a Star Wars movie and managed to destroy an entire star system as well as blow up a planet.

Still plays distant second fiddle to the showrunner for Lexx in my mind. He destroyed an entire universe.

What blows my mind is that where before people critiqued the show for being a prequel, there's now a flood of people online saying, "Oh, so now they're just copying Voyager?!"

You just can't win.

I'm interested in where there going, leery of the writing staff being able to put together a coherent compelling narrative.

So I'm torn.

Nothing I haven't seen before. I remember the DS9 days. Trying to remember what someone said, because it's been over 20 years... This is what they said, circa 1996 (my first year online)...

"Season 1 and 2: We're about the Bajorans, the Cardassians, the Maquis, and bringing Bajor into the Federation."
"Season 3: No we're not! We're about the Dominion and Shape-Shifters!"
"Season 4: No we're not! We're about Worf and war with the Klingons!"

I can just picture the same people who had a problem with DSC S1 having a problem with DS9 S4, with its focus on the Klingons. I remember people either loved DS9 Season 4, didn't like it because it "completely shifted focus" away from the first two seasons, or hated it because it wasn't Gene's Vision. Good thing the Dominion War hadn't happened yet!

Typing this post just made me feel old.

I for one would not criticise a copy of Voyager... be a bloody improvement!

IMO, you're only as old as you act.

The first season of Space 1999 certainly offered better execution of the concept. As did Fantastic Journey. As did Red Dwarf. As did the first season of the original Battlestar Galactica and maybe the first season of the reboot. As did Farscape. Did I miss any?

Ooh, I absolutely love Red Dwarf, especially the first two series, but it ditched its original concept just as fast as Voyager did. Three million years into deep space and no signs of human life anywhere, but after series 2 we're constantly finding prison colonies, wax-droid worlds, GELFs, science stations and simulants all over the place...

Same. I'm seriously grateful for all the good trek stuff we've got going on these days. Much better than things were when Enterprise was winding down and nemesis was a catastrophe.
In my opinion downgrading Enterprise or Nemesis is unnecessary. Maybe when, or rather if Discovery gets to the episode count Enterprise did then maybe she can compare. 29 episodes in two seasons ...
