I expected to see news about the Picard Series starting to shoot now. I thought production was supposed to begin in the middle of April.

What's going on? No Midnight's Edge or Doomcock stories, please.

They're doing rehersals, according to Patrick Stewart's Instagram.

Filming is supposed to commence this month and the show release starting December... but I suspect that's industry-speak for next summer.

They kept Ethan Peck quiet until they'd already started filming his stuff.

But he's not a main character. They announced all of the main Discovery cast (and the title) before shooting began.

I thought it started shooting today? Mind you it's only 6.10am in California!

or they want people to enjoy the DSC finale before promoting their new project

There have been 3 different castings reported on by Deadline other than Patrick Stewart. They're keeping it pretty secretive right now, but I bet the promotional machine starts ramping up as soon as Discovery's season concludes on Thursday

that would mean a long gap for CBS aa. unless the animated series drops earlier, it is hard to find them liking that process. I don't see what's taking so long with the picard series. I guess in my head I've been imagining it as a very fx-lite series shot around a series of galactic tea-rooms but i should rethink that. It might be really impressive. On thing I suspect is that with filming in Hollywood, it's going to be much harder to keep rumor-particle emissions from escaping vs the Ontario production (though that is pretty much a sieve now as well)

But no official announcements. Although perhaps they're trying to avoid a similar situation from Discovery's first season where they announced Shazad Latif as a klingon and then announced him as Tyler, meaning that everyone figured out pretty quickly what his secret was.

I don't remember that happening unless it was done than covered up. They used a false name Javid Iqbal for the actor playing Voq.

Again, I bet any official announcement of casting, title, etc, will happen after Discovery ends this Thursday. I would bet next week will have some sort of Picard news.

They're aiming for a full year of Star Trek programming by 2021. That's when Lower Decks, Discovery, Picard, and the Section 31 show will all be on the air together (and possibly the animated kids show and hopefully a Pike show)

I don't have a link, but they originally announced that he was playing Kol, then later switched it around. Presumably, at that point, Kol was what Voq was going to be called.

    This!

I'm pretty sure, as soon as DSC S2 ends, all promotion hell will break loose, with a first "real" trailer for SDCC.

And the setup for the DSC season finale looks like they are getting the Pike Show also in position. The reports of the quality and costs of the Enterprise bridge set also indicate, that it was planned for quite some time.

Lower Decks was written concurrently with The Picard Show, but the animation will take a couple of years so it'll be awhile.
