I picked up my laptop computer this morning and found that it is suddenly MUCH heavier than it was yesterday. I have never weighed the thing, but the change in weight is VERY noticeable. No conditions in our apartment changed....at least none that can be determined from a reasonably thorough examination.

    Anyone have any ideas?

It's a Dell Inspiron 15, Series 3000....purchased in October, 2014 at Walmart. Seems to be functioning normally, as of right now.

It's physical weight would not change unless gravity did. Something would have to be added to it or...maybe you are feeling weaker today that normal?

Is the laptop the only object that feels heavier to you? Perhaps you're experiencing a bout of weakness, in which case you should consult your doctor.

You know those gremlins you always believed lived inside your computer? Well, they're in there now. :D

Have you ran a level one diagnostic to check for an increase in gravitons?

Second day, still heavier than before. Everything else seems to be normal, so far. It's only this computer that has changed in weight.

I have checked the computer out as much as possible and find nothing obvious. Still functioning as normal.

I have read one other instance of this happening with a laptop computer and no good explanation of why.

I can appreciate the humor, but I also feel that highly unusual things should not be just brushed off as if they did not exist or that it's some kind of a problem with the one who reports them.

Maybe - something going on with the battery? Lithium Ion - I would assume (not -dilithium - sadly).

As a matter of fact, I had deleted a fair number of files and did a registry cleaning, etc, just a few days before this change in weight happened.

So weigh it. The manual says it weights 2.30 kg and that it may vary depending on options. But it's not going to vary a great deal from that. If your laptop weighs a large variance for that I guess start looking for the ant colony inside the expansion bay or something.

You know it's a scientific fact that when things go faster they increase in mass. And it is also a fact that time slows down and things get shorter.
Maybe your computer got faster, you should measure it and see if it got shorter.

In the inertial reference frame of the object, its mass and length don't change. The apparent length contraction is actually a rotation about a hypersphere. The effect is to make more of the front surface of a body visible while it's approaching and the rear surface when it's departing. At near the speed of light, the object appears to flip almost instantaneously from front view to back view.

By the way, the apparent effect on mass only applies to inertial mass, not to gravitational mass (for those who were wondering whether rapidly moving objects should turn into black holes).

None of this applies in this case. I suspect muscle weakness.
