There have been many classic fights in TOS, usually involving Kirk in a major way. That brought out a thought....what 2 other characters, who never went at it, would have made an interesting hand-to-hand, no holds barred, fight to the finish? Use your imagination and sense of humor to pit 2 characters (from the same episode or from 2 different episodes) against each other and tell us who you think would win.

I guess I’ll start with the obvious...

Stonn versus Spock. Sorry, Spock, but I think Stonn would have come out as the victor.

-Gary Mitchell versus Apollo: Whom Gods Destroy? Winner: Gary Mitchell
-Bele and Lokai, tag team versus Lazarus and the Salt Vampire: In many ways, these guys are the last of their kinds...that which survives! Winner: Bele and Lokai...then they turn on each other. Winner: Bele.
-Horta versus a Tholian:Winner: Horta
-Charlie X versus the Doomsday Machine Winner: Doomsday Machine

Garth was a nutjob, so he--as is the case with nutjobs--could be emotionally manipulated. Then, there's hand-to-hand combat, and based on how Tracey sort of had a 60/40 advantage over Kirk (of all people), he would mop the floor with Garth.

I see that as a draw.

Khan versus the Gorn. Winner: Khan.

Interesting contest, and difficult to predict the winner.

Balok versus any one of the Bonk-Bonk kids. Winner: Bonk Bonk kid

With the technology at his fingertips? The Bonk-bonk kids (including Jahn) would end up wetting their pants at the sight of the Fesarius (or its scout ships) in the sky. Winner: Balok.

Gary Mitchell versus Apollo: Whom Gods Destroy? Winner: Gary Mitchell

Easily. Mitchell did not need any device to power or enhance natural ability / power of thought into creation, etc..

-Bele and Lokai, tag team versus Lazarus and the Salt Vampire: In many ways, these guys are the last of their kinds...that which survives! Winner: Bele and Lokai...then they turn on each other. Winner: Bele.

Not seeing this as a good match-up. Just seems odd.

Horta versus a Tholian:Winner: Horta

Depends on the Tholian weapons. For all one knows, they might be more effective than Phasers were against the Horta.

Charlie X versus the Doomsday Machine Winner: Doomsday Machine

I see Charlie taking this. If he--as a mere teenager with no spaceship technical knowledge--could remove the Antares' baffle plate, thus causing its destruction, it would not take him long to figure out some way to tinker with some system within the DM, enough to make it malfunction or destroy it. Then again, he could make the entire thing vanish.

We never saw Charlie do anything on that scale. Changing people is one thing. Changing something of the PK's size made of neutronium is something else.

If one of the stipulations of the fight is a fight to the finish, then there can be no draw. Eventually either Kor or Kang is left standing.

But once the kids see Balok and the actual hand-to-hand combat begins, I think Balok would be defeated quite easily.

Obviously, this isn't a typical "hand-to-hand combat" situation. My original thought was Charlie on a ship, staring into the maw of the DM, and whether Charlie had the capacity to affect the DM in any way (internally or externally) before the DM destroyed the ship with its energy beam. If Charlie could merely make the DM disappear, then it wouldn't be much of a fight. I'm not sure if he had the ability to do that. As Kirk and Spock surmised, there are limits to Charlie's powers. The Thasians gave Charlie his powers to help him survive. However, giving him the power to affect change on the scale of a DM is extreme overkill.

Re: Charlie vs the DM. Not make it disappear but effect enough of it's smaller systems to either self destruct or be ineffective.

Re: Kor vs Kang. Depends on the fight. If it's an arena then Kang. If it involves plotting then Kor.

Charlie and the Doomsday Machine is a question we cannot solve, ever and if the thing was heading into the galaxy gobbling up planets I wonder why the Thasians or the Organians didn't just...stop it?
