Oh, I understood that part. This forum is still the internet though. That's what I meant.I mean TrekBBS. A Star Trek forum.
Apparently, these kind of statistics are based on Quantity, not Quality.
This very likely doesn't matter, as they are looking for numbers of expressions, not number of expressions per person. That's why Scott Grimes was asking fans to include an Orville hashtag any time they discussed the show on the internet.Have they accounted for duplicates?
Turns out there's only 11 of us, each with 200 duplicate accounts. We're single-handedly keeping Discovery afloat.Have they accounted for duplicates? Someone that talks about Trek here, goes to Instagram to post pics, watches the show, and so on? Seems like that would be a very important component to it all. How do you decide which are independent, and which are from the same person?
On the contrary. They're absolutely great for Parrot Analytics. Those are completely meaningless though.

No, because these aren't ratings, and the Parrot Analytics methodology is proprietary and opaque. In as much as any TV shows ratings are great for Neilson.

But it makes it meaningless for people who aren't their clients, unlike the rating information disclosed by Nielsen (who also do research into market trends on a consulting basis). Again, it's great for Parrot Analytics. The more we talk about their unlabeled data and expect it to be an industry benchmark, the better for them.So what? It doesn't help Parrot if their numbers don't correlate with CBS's $$$$ and subscriptions coming in from interest in Discovery.
I'll have to wait til the end of this season, but I would have some major questions about the validity of the numbers if they are doing some kind of reworking of the series.

The TZ is slightly bigger for now so CBS AA has two series which draw viewers:‘Discovery’ has been the number one show every month it has premiered an episode, and actually has been the No. 1 show in many other months when it hasn’t been new throughout last year.
“The one thing I can say is it was slightly bigger than both ‘Star Trek: Discovery’s’ first day for Season 1 and Season 2,” DeBevoise said. “Both of those were big and this was slightly bigger from a viewers perspective. The great thing is we have the most subscribers we’ve ever had for the service, so that does aid in driving viewership because we keep growing.”
But the overall gist of their system is How Many Times a particular show is talked about or mentioned.Quality does factor as "expressions" are weighted differently. See upthread. Fanfic weighs more than a simple opinion.
They're not going to have 2 ship-based 23rd century shows on at the same time, so if they're going to do a Pike show, the easy fix is to send Discovery to another time or place since the spore drive has the ability to do that.
The 24th century was big enough for 2 Trek series to be on at a time, why shouldn't the 23rd be?
If you don't have multiple series in the same time period, you can't have crossovers. Why wouldn't CBS want the option of doing crossovers between two of more of their Star Trek series? The whole idea of having a successful Streaming platform is that you are encouraging viewers of different things to keep their subscriptions year round.
