thought that the Time to series what supposed to explain certain questions left over from the movie after not before.
Yeah, as Christopher noted the series did explain some of the questions about Nemesis. Some were inconsistencies, for instance how Worf was apparently back in Starfleet after becoming an ambassador at the end of DS9, what happened to Data's emotion chip which wasn't mentioned at all in Nemesis? Others were just natural questions. How did Troi/Riker's romance progress after Insurrection to them becoming married in Nemesis? How did Riker's promotion come about? What happened to Wesley Crusher and how was it that he was sitting at the reception in a Starfleet uniform (the A Time To.... series ignores the deleted scene that he was back in Starfleet---I was actually happy with that as it seemed odd that he would suddenly leave the Traveler and return to his former life).
But that was just part of the tale of the A Time To Series. There were some great stories, the Tezwa affair just being the climax. I always wondered when the consequences of all that would come home to roost. And I liked the conundrum it presents us with. It's definitely not black and white. On the one hand what Zife and Azernal did was illegal and dangerous. Had the Klingons found out what they had done it would have plunged the Quadrant back into war, so soon after a devastating war against the Dominion had just ended. In a way what Section 31, Admiral Ross and Captain Picard did actually probably saved the Federation from a war from which it may not have recovered. But they participated in an illegal coup. Now, at the end of the day it wasn't a typical military coup in that they didn't really take power. The power was quickly returned to civilian hands and a free election was obviously held and Bacco elected President soon after.
But it was one of those 'do the ends justify the means' questions. What will become of Captain Picard? And what about relations between the Klingon Empire and the Federation? It's been years now and a lot has happened since then including the Borg invasion, the Unsung affair, and the situation in the Lembatta Cluster (assuming that series is part of the current novelverse). Will any of that smooth any bad feelings arising from an event that occurred years ago and has been since corrected?
And finally will we learn the ultimate fate of Admiral Ross? It was inferred that he would suffer the same fate as Zife, Azernal and Qualfina, but I don't recall it being explicity so. I do remember Ross hoped to find a quiet 'island' to retreat to and he hoped if he laid low Section 31 would forget about him.
And finally I wonder if these novels will any way lead to the nu-TNG show? The show is being developed as we speak, is it possible that Picard's current status in the novelverse plays into his situation in the upcoming show? It will be interesting to see.
