Spoilers General Disco Chat Thread

There is one oddity in the whole Section 31 storyline, though, and it's this little line from Ash:

Ash: This is Agent Tyler transmitting on secure emergency channel. Control, do you read?

Leland:
Copy, Agent Tyler. Status?

This is an abberant use of the term "Control" based on everything else we've seen this season. Why is Ash communicating with an AI, and why does Leland answer? Surely they wouldn't use "Control" haphazardly to refer to some kind of human command center and an AI? Given Control's ability to create photorealistic holograms, is the Leland we're seeing even real? What if the twist in the Georgiou storyline is that Control/Leland is actually playing Georgiou this whole time, and the Section 31 ship is one big holodeck?

That doesn't explain why Ash knows about the situation, so it's pretty unlikely that this idea is valid. But this show does love to bury the lede in seemingly invisible ways.

Yeah, that seems like it's probably a mistake. I am a bit surprised something like that would have happened though, I would have thought the whole Control is an AI thing would have been something they decided on long before they started the scripts involving it.
It's official, Anson Mount's Pike will be leaving the series at the end of the season. I know everybody pretty much assumed he would be, but I was still hoping that maybe they'd find a way to keep him around.

I just realized something: Who's going to replace Airiam in her do-nothing job ("spore drive ops officer")? Tilly, right? I mean, she needs something to do, and she's always been a Spore drive engineer milling about other Bridge stations (usually Burnham's).

I bit of a step up, I guess, to replace a Lt. Cdr. with an Ensign, but it'd only be in an "acting" role.

Otherwise, I guess they could just stick in Linus or Jira Narwani or everyone's favorite, Osnullus the Bug-Head Lady.

I don't know who'll take over her station, but I'm pretty sure Burnham will be moved into Second Officer.

^Someone suggested the Andorian dude, who should have recovered from the tonsillectomy by now, should become the DASH drive officer replacing Airiam. I support the idea.

I'm not sure. It's either going to be Cadet Decker, or Lieutenant Nilsson after a tragic shuttlecraft accident.

Normally there are promo images for this week's episode out on the usual sites. I guess CBS is a little behind this week.

Nilsson was my first thought. She's already been established as a Spore Hub technician, and that would effectively return Sara Mitich to the position she originally occupied as Airiam. There'd be something quite poetic about that.

Oh, so it isn't just me! Good to know. I was wondering.

<spoiler for those who haven't seen S02E09>

Aw, boo! Airiam was a nice character design and concept. Sad to see her go, but I'm glad they didn't find some cliché way to save her.

I'm re-watching the entire season (up to this point). I don't think I'll get all the way through tonight, but maybe at least a few episodes. I can get more out of it and be more analytical now that I have a better idea of where it's going.

Sarek tells Burnham he sees the missing notes when she's talking about Spock. He knows she's leaving stuff out. Later on, Amanda finds out as well that that Burnham's not saying something. I think the other shoe will drop before the season ends. Spock will tell them or something will compel Burnham to. Possibly a combination of both.

Or They are holding them back like They did with the ones from Episode 8, so as not to put out any spoilers.

We already learned what it was....
(don't read this if you haven't watched the last three episodes 7,8 & 9)
Burnham insults Spock when they were kids to drive him away in an attempt to save him from the Vulcan Extremists who were attempting to kill her

Davey, no kidding! :p

You misunderstood. I mean Sarek and Amanda finding out.

The forum has spoiler tags you know. [ spoiler ]

And we have a thread dedicated to that episode.

I know but I thought the tags were unnecessary given that the episode aired last week. As for a thread dedicated to that episode, that seems a bit excessive! :p

Oh, and also, THIS entire thread has a Spoilers tag, so... ;)

Dozens of pages of "excessive", but that's us Trek fans for ya.

Could be worse. We currently have an entire forum that's dedicated to a grand total of six hours' worth of Star Trek.

I'm thinking if decker was a midshipman type cadet like Preston or Tilly, he might have graduated and his ensign's commission by now. It would be interesting to see if his name gets called out again.

I'm pretty sure Decker is off the ship now. It wouldn't make much canon sense for him and Spock to serve alongside each other.

Also, his former actor is persona non grata in Hollywood (for good reason).
