7.

Thought it was pretty solid, could go up or down on a rewatch. Bit of a nod to Colossus: The Forbin Project, which I liked. A bit overboard on the Spock/Burnham angst, but it wasn't a deal breaker. While I thought they did excellent work with Airiam, I would've liked to got to know her a bit more through the series vs. having it all stuffed in one episode.

Never thought the show would deliver back-to-back 7's. So I'm hopeful they can stick the landing.

HA!
Love how even Spock call Borerham out for being such a Mary sue always trying to save everyone

Next week, while trying to break the warp 10 barrier the holodeck malfunctions trapping Tilly and Stamets in a simulation showing clips of the past season......meanwhile Pike spends a night in sickbay to have a sex change so he can fool planet of savages (played by Black stereotypes ALA TNG) into releasing Burhhams brain that they stole so she can stop them all developing into lizards. A starfleet ship piloted by rogue cadets who officer was killed in the klingon war. however flys in and saves the day.

Also, genuine question: why are some people calling Airiam Atrium? Is that an in-joke I'm not getting?
I think it's mostly just a satirical take on her name to indicate that we didn't get to know her very well. In other words, she was such a minor background character they (jokingly) can't even get her name right. Or they just find the play on words funny.
I believe they are not even space faring, at least not Warp capable.
Hence them auctioning off their wormhole, cause they couldn‘t make use of it.
Makes one think about how they still became members of the galactic community.
I wonder if Starfleet is peppered with individuals from pre-warp cultures who were under observation by "duck blind" missions (like in Insurrection) that they discovered or exposed by accident, and instead of choosing to go back to their own world, they asked for permission to join Starfleet and learn about the rest of the galaxy.

Alternatively, maybe that's what happened with the Barzans as a culture. They were under observation, discovered the surveillance, and so with no other choice, contact was made and they were brought up to speed on the state of the galaxy, but chose to develop at their own pace and with their own independence instead of taking outside assistance, perhaps out of distrust of the outsiders at the time. So they remain pre-warp but are fully aware of the existence of other spacefaring species around them, and have grown to slowly but surely welcome them as time goes on, despite retaining their sovereignty.

Is the Barzan Wormhole known to the Federation in this time frame?
Doubtful, unless they're being super-respectful about not claiming it. It could be a situation like the Bajoran Wormhole where it's not immediately apparent unless you fly right into it, so it doesn't get discovered until the 24th century.

No, the wormhole was just discovered shortly before the episode.
The Barzan‘s knew they couldn‘t utilize it due to lack of their space capabilities and ultimately decided to sell it off in a rush in an attempt to put their planet on the map of galactic significance.
They didn‘t even asked for assistance to study it first to make sure it‘s actually valuable.

I am pretty sure they were not the biggest fans of Bajor a short time later.

HA! I'm continuing the stupid tradition of the term "Mary Sue" having absolutely no consistent meaning other than "female character I don't like doing things."

If this is humor it sucks. If it's trolling it sucks. Basically, it sucks and you should stop.

I got the sense from that TNG episode that the Barzan wormhole was a recent development.

So.......

In Calypso, the Discovery is seen in the far future with a human named Craft aboard. Craft's people are at was against the V'draysha, whom we all assumed was some future version of the Federation.

Is it possible that this is the AI-dominated future where Control has won (and literally IS the V'draysha) and Craft is a member of a small remaining human resistance?

I hope they destroy control! the federation can not be governed by an artificial intelligence.

sad Admiral Shukar died :(

Who's to say the Federation were the ones to make first contact with the Barzan? For all we know it could've been someone like the Ferengi and we all know they don't care about the Prime Directive.

AI...riam will return in some way.

"My name is Airiam but people call me "AI" for short.

I gave this episode a 10/10, same as last episode. After This season ends and Pike returns to the Enterprise, I don't see how season 3 of Discovery can be any better. It's all downhill from there.

Burnham was also busy getting the shit beat out of her by a possessed Airiam.
Also, didn't Nhan only have one of those things ripped off? She might've been incapacitated but still getting enough of whatever she breathes for a little while. Meanwhile, Burnham had less than a minute to stop Airiam - and she failed due to her personal shortcomings. As an aside: anyone accusing her of being perfect after Spock calls her self-important and she almost gets everyone killed just wants to keep doing that despite evidence to the contrary.
