Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

Ooh, that would be awesome if it indeed lights up. Kind of a bummer, though, that some of the earlier models didn't. There are some that would have really benefitted from a couple of well-placed LEDs. ;)

I'm happy to see the Shran has finally made its way into the UK store. I'll be glad to order it once it becomes available. :)

Got my Merchantman from the comic book store today. So beautiful and detailed!

ETA: The magazine is nice, too; I liked the feature on ILM and Star Trek III. I didn't know the spacedock was made of plexiglass and had lights inside it! And the spacedock interior model was incredible. Insisting that the Starfleet officer played by Grace Lee Whitney is not Janice Rand seems like Memory Alpha-style pedantry, though.

They don't give a reason; it just says Whitney was playing someone else.
This is just semantics, but they don’t say she’s ”playing someone else“, but that she’s portraying an unnamed commander, which doesn‘t necessarily mean she‘s not supposed to be Rand, just that her character remains unnamed in the movie. :)

My god, the Merchant Man is one of the very best released by Eaglemoss.
Yes, it definitely is! Quite amazing that they are still able to give it their all this late in the game.

For me, a lot of it comes to the metallic paint and weathering they used for the model, which in the past was almost exclusively used for models from Enterprise for some reason. IMHO, many of the earlier models suffered from being painted with this flat, dull color that makes it look like a toy. Models like the Galor class, the Vidiian ship, the Breen ship or even some of the Starfleet ships (like the Stargazer) – while having a good sculpt etc. – would have really benefitted from this kind of paint. I‘m not sure how they decide to do it on some models but not on others. :sigh:

Yeah I always figured it was Rand too. Never understood the need for the usual serial contrarians to say definitively that it wasn’t her simply because she wasn’t specifically credited as such. Particularly since she did show up again later as Rand in TUC and subsequently VOY-Flashback. Lack of evidence does not ever equal proof-positive.

I believe in TUC, Grace is credited as "Excelsior Communications Officer" and her character is never named on screen. Does that make her also not-Rand?

Seems silly to dispute the TSFS character is also Rand. The only slightly problematic matter is her brief appearance in TVH where she's back in NCO uniform, but she's arguably less prominent than Commander Rand in TSFS, so it's TVH we should retcon.

Oh, I forgot (or never knew) about the ranks. I can see the complications, but it wouldn't be the first rank blips in Star Trek.

Yes of course, but she's not named in the credits or the film, which is the same as in Star Trek III, but everyone knows it's Rand. So I don't get why "woman in cafeteria" isn't Rand too.
And if the credits are the be-all, end-all for making a character official, then Nichelle Nichols actually doesn't play Uhura in Star Trek 6, she plays a new character named Uhuru. ;)

When the heck is this company going to issue the Doomsday Machine-damaged U.S.S. Constellation? In Original and Extra Crispy Remastered versions?
