Poker on the Enterprise

I'm doing a complete run through TNG and am now one disk into season 2, where we see the first instance of the Enterprise crew playing poker. Any other comments, memories, or objections to the recurring poker game theme in TNG?

Here's one poker game you might have missed.

Just watched "Allegiance" again (up to season 3 on my full series journey). That was not actually captain Picard who walked in on the poker game and observed one hand -- it was an alien disguised as Picard (a replica -- as noted above "rePlicard"). That hand was interesting, however. Troi, who as a betazoid would know when anyone else is bluffing, chooses to just call a 20 unit bet with three other players in the hand, despite holding a queen-high flush (it looks like they are playing 5-card draw poker, in which case a flush is a crushingly superior hand). No raise, Diana? (Of course, what are they even playing for? There is no money on the Enterprise).

Why, those shiny, colorful round disks, of course! They are valued collector items - everybody wants at least a dozen of each color.

I always assumed they were just playing with play chips but they could easily represent something like holodeck time.

It's certainly hard to bet with "working better to improve myself and the rest of humanity."

Deanna, I see your "improve yourself" and raise you "bettering the rest of humanity."

I don't like the memes which most of the groups are forcing today, maybe I am getting older? Anyway, is very representative that we gather all here, to discuss things which are not for the teenagers, just according to the comments you can see the age of the people. I am wondering why no one speaks about what this page DELETED LINK A lot of people, which I know, I've met them there, the real gamers who gained their reputation a long time ago.

I used to watch the TNG series long time ago.... I think it was the first Star Trek which appeared on one of our channels, I watched many episodes but I would lie if I'd say that I watched all of them. I can say that I watched most of the episodes but not every one of them.
I remember those poker tables they used to have in the holodeck but I can't remember what were they playing ? Texas Hold'Em, Omaha, Omaha High-low, or maybe Royal poker :)
Or maybe it was some older variation of poker....
Right now I'm rewatching the DS9 and I kinda miss those TNG poker scenes, since on DS9 they know only Dabo

the only time Poker was played on the holodeck was Descent Pt1 when Data played against Issac Newton, Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking.

It may be, but thing is, I never learned Dabo..... seemed a bit too hazardous for me, that's why I prefer Texas Holdem and Omaha :)
