THE ORVILLE S2, E8: "IDENTITY, PART I"

I can't wait. The redemption of Brannon Braga has been one of this show's many unexpected joys.
Braga was never as bad as Trek fandom make him out to be. Several fan favourite TNG episodes are either written or co-written by him, likewise many of the better Voyager and Enterprise episodes. While I won't deny he's also written some questionable episodes for the latter two shows and made some questionable decisions, he's hardly the demon Trek fans paint him as. Indeed, some of his worst stuff was either forced on him by UPN or came about in a time period in which he has since admitted to being burnt out and spent.

Some fans took a dislike to him primarily because he spoke dismissively of the original Star Trek on a couple of occasions. The later blame and resentments were built on that.

Which is funny, because Braga actually rejected three story proposals for Enterprise to feature the Gorn because Arena made it clear that was meant to be first contact with them. Well, oaky, one was re-written to be about the Andorians instead.

Enterprise would have been a much worse show if it weren't for Braga, as it was he who stood up and told UPN No when they tried to put a boy band on the show.
That honestly was Rick Berman (although he and Brannon Braga were of like mind and neither wanted to follow that suggestion); but Berman was the Senior to Braga, and was put into the mix early in TNG's creation to make sure GR stayed within budget.

Between ST: V's "Threshold" and ENT's "These Are The Voyages" - Brannon Braga's rep as a crappy Trek writer is justified. ;)

I wonder if this will be the story that follows up on that little bit of foreshadowing when Claire asked Isaac what his judgment of humanity is.

Do we know if the Kaylons are normally an individualistic species? Possibly Isaac has his unique experiences with the crew downloaded and is then meant to be reformatted back to a default? Playing into the title - the Kaylons now have his memories, and so would reformatted Isaac, but would he be the same being if those memories are just "things he knows" stripped of their meaning to him?

So we now have confirmation we are going to the Kaylon homeworld tonight. Really looking forward to this after all the set up we got.
I just watched the new Magnum PI episode from 1/20 and it had Halston Sage in a guest role as a rival PI in training. I was surprised just how different she looked with her real hair and now Xelayan makeup, I didn't even recognize her at first. I'm also wondering if they used some kind of tricks to make her look her look smaller on The Orville, because I swear she didn't seem to be quite as tiny there as she looked on The Orville.

Watching last week's episode, I was missing some of the action from last season, mainly because it feels like a lot of this season focuses on relationships and the like. While that's ok, I hope these next two episodes feel more quicker paced and have a sense of urgency. Wouldn't mind a ship to ship battle either.
